Heretical TW build
Hi folks,
It's my first successful TW-style amp. Rebuilded from vintage German amp Regent MV3. Beautiful sound and awesome touch-sensitivity!

Wow! awesome!
That's quite the tight package. I imagine that would have taken quite some tweaking to get quiet and stable.
I'm responding before looking closely at your schematic. I did notice your treble shift switch.
Very cool adaptation. Do your tubes all fit within the height of your front panel as well?

Looks very nice. Seen a bunch of these old regents being rebuilt around. Moded an amp built with regent transformers with some sort of Matchless schematic in mind. Sounded quite good.

Thanks, guys!
Synchu, In Yugoslavia, Regent tube amplifiers (MV3, Regent-30, Regent-60) must meet often. Very good quality of output transformers! And acceptable power trafos.
My best tube set for this amp:
V1 - JJ ECC83s
V2,3 - TungSol 12AX7 (Russian RI)
V4,5 - Telam EL84
No hum or noise, no sizzle, "honey overdrive" only .
 .

Yes, all fit and covered with a casing.bcmatt wrote:Wow! awesome!

Thanks!
Conventional arms, conventional soldering iron . All work done on a small internal chassis, which is then inserted into the box. Then soldered transformer and pot wires. That's all

I noticed the following changes: the sound becomes more mellow.

Re: Heretical TW build
In the old days it was said that the only way you could ever make a Wreck stable was to wire it exactly as Ken Fischer did... well at least some folks said that and a few others believed it. Good job and thanks for posting that.

Re: Heretical TW build
Super cool and as said, great job on the space available. I am really into the resourcing of amps idea.

Hi folks!
Next time old Regent MV3 rebuild to TW+VOX-style amp: Songwrighter+AC15(pentode) inputs and PA with no GNFB. TW-style side: sweet touch-sensitive tone (rich crunch at full Volume, to right pos). VOX-style side: сut-through singing agressive overdrive. Front panel - customer's work.

Customer gigging with this amp. I got remark: too bassy on both channels, 2x12 cab with Altek-417C. On TW side - change R11 to 2M8, on Vox side - change C5 to 2n2, change C13,14 to 22n both. Voila! Tight bass with no excess. Once again convinced: TW - luxury amp.

Re: Heretical TW build
Very nicely put together... Thanks for posting the schematic and photos. Sounds like you found a really nice combination. Any thoughts about using a relay to switch between channels?
