I've been looking at schematic of the Ultra High Gain circuit Fig. 14-7 in Merlin Blencowe's Designing Tube Preamps for Guitar and Bass 2nd edition.
This layout is rather long and could easily be condensed. Might give it a try along with a 2 channel amp using his lower gain bluesy preamp.
Anyone been working on these?

Nope! Build the tone stack on the pots!
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

Re: Ultra High Gain circuit
I did the medium gain preamp one time, and it sounded great. I'm interested to see how the ultra turns out.

If I did build the tone stack on the pots then I could make this a lunch box size amp.Reeltarded wrote:Nope! Build the tone stack on the pots!
But I have requests for two channel Fender clean side 1 and higher gain side 2 so thinking about using the less higher gain circuit from the book.
When you get to the high gain and ultra high gain circuits then people complain about all the hiss and stage noise associated with these if not using noise gate.
Oh so many circuits to build and so little time.

I have seen your amp collection, you are well ahead of everybody!M Fowler wrote: Oh so many circuits to build and so little time.![]()
Just be carefull on the grounding, I built my own high gain pre-amp, then forced in a "Merlin effects loop" and ended up with a squeel, once I found the ground culprit it was back to good, but its easy to make a ground loop problem with these sort of builds.

Not sure about the lunchbox size. The more signal you have, the more likely it is that things will couple that you don't want to. Too small is problematic.M Fowler wrote:If I did build the tone stack on the pots then I could make this a lunch box size amp.Reeltarded wrote:Nope! Off topic, but any chance I can get a copy of the schem, pretty please?
