Resurrecting this old thread

Post by David Root »

I sent my RPN calculator to fixthatcalc.com at least two years ago. It's a one man show and he has had bigtime health problems.

His website is still up, and says he's back in business trying to catch up on his backlog since last year, but he is not answering my emails (three in the last several months), so I'm about ready to give up on him.

Does anyone have any current info on fix that calc?

Failing that what's a decent modern calc to look at?

Dunno about fixthatcalc, but I mostly use the ones in my iPhone. Four-function or scientific if you rotate it, which is plenty for typical hand calcs. I also have HP 50g (RPN!) and TI83/84 programable graphing calculator emulators. These phone apps cost $10 or less and function like the originals in all respects. If you want the real thing, you can get a 50g really cheap right now ($70) since it is being discontinued.

Thanx Martin. I looked up the HP50g. Wayyyy beyond what I need, but it is RPN.

Can't use the apps as I lost my iPhone when I retired. It too was way beyond what I need.

I have been using the Windows 10 calculator in my CPU but it would be nice to have something portable so I can use it at my assembly/test bench and the kitchen table (design bench!).

IMO calculator apps are not very good unless you are running them on a device that has a touch screen. The are phone app emulators available for the simpler RPN HP's too (11C, 15C). The best thing is they are always in your pocket!

Suggest you consider getting an iPad mini. Assuming you have wifi your PC quietly retires, except if you have substantial writing, composing or CAD tasks. If smaller pocket fit is needed an iPod touch works too, but less nice for calculating, browsing and short notes.
