I lacquered an early reissue Bassman I bought. For no other reason than to make it look less anaemic!
Scrounged a Pint (approx.) of orange / brown dyed Nitro Cellulose lacquer from a Luthier friend and attached it with a 1" and 2" brush. Did two coats indoors in one evening, finished with a 3rd the following morning. First coat disappeared into the fabric, but that pretty much sealed it and the next two stayed on top.
I did no cleaning of the tweed and no preparation of the frayed bits ... just brushed it on. Took the chassis out of course and the back panels.
The end result makes the amp look quite old, as the stains that were already on the tweed just take on an "Old stain" look.
Most people reckoned it looked much better than the finish fender apply on the "Ltd." reissue.
Since sold it, never quite "hit the spot" for me .. obviously need to build one or get a real one ...
