tone stack wiring

Post by C Moore »

Followed the Xits-10 schem.
I am certainly NOT beyond forgetting to solder, or making a backward connection, and I have put a filter cap in polarity incorrect.
But THIS.....I must be doing something fundamentally wrong.
The Bass Pot has just a small effect. The Treble Pot has the biggest effect when it is at "1".....and the more I turn it to "10" the more Treble it cuts, and cuts the gain. Does not seem to matter if I flip the leads, it still does not function properly.

Looking at the back of the pots from right to left:
47pF is connected to the Pot input.
Treble wiper connected to 56k to ground and grid of V2.
Output of Treble Pot goes to Input of Bass Pot

Bass Pot wiper is connected to ground via a 9k1 resistor, and to a 0.02 cap in the tone circuit.
The out put of the Bass Pot is straight to ground.

Have I done something wrong somewhere.?
This is the worst tone circuit I have ever wired.
The cut control works normally.
Thank You

Can you post the schem?

It is pretty much a Vox Treble/ Bass tone stack.

The whole amp is pretty much a Vox AC15.....isn't it.?
I cannot figure out what I have done wrong.
Let me look at the Vox Schem.......

It's got some Trainwreck DNA in it, but the tone stack is Vox IIRC.

You've got the bass pot wired backwards and get rid of the 56K.

The clockwise terminal of the bass pot goes to ground (you called it the input) and the center terminal goes to the 10K. That 10K gives you some mids and when you turn the bass pot all the way up, (where you effectively short the 10K out) you get a huge mid cut.

That 56K probably kills everything. What were they thinking?

OK.....so I keep the wiper the way it is, on a 10k to ground, and then I swap the ends of the Bass Pot.?
Thank You

Yes...that 56k was playing havoc with everything.
The amp now works as it should and sounds much better...Who'd A Thought
Thanks Again
