Hello all, I picked up a roll of this stuff from the late eighties or early nineties. It looks like the same stuff Dumble used but the writing is a little different. It has a copper clad steel conductor and a bare copper shield which is not the greatest looking shield for coverage. Has anyone done a build and used this actual stuff? It is 16pf per foot which will make it a bit on the bright side. Also, it is very stiff and thick which will make it like trying to shove a python in a hamster cage.

Charlie,
I have used this type of cable (which is what HAD used in my ODS) sometimes, mostly as the connection
between input jack and V1 grid in Fenders, it does a little sparkle,
and it was also really cheap, but as difficult to work with as you expect,
stiff and thick, but it stays put once it is in place, no need for cable ties.
FWIW, I prefer the white teflon coax, but it is about three times as expensive.
BTW I really enjoy your contributions to this site,
greetings from Germany

Re: Tandy RG59U ?
Thanks Marcos,
I know everybody talks about Coaxial capacitance but I think the actual construction and materials used in the cable must have some effect on the sound. It may sound silly but I also like the look of those early eighties amplifiers. However, like you pointed out, it is probably very difficult to work with and the white coaxial, which I have some of, seems like a better way to go.

If you like the look and you don't care if it's 100% authentic this will get you there. It's nice and soft, though still a bit bulky. Mogami has a mini spdif coax, but their wire isn't as soft as Canare IME. If you use it keep in mind the thin black rubbery membrane is carbon and conductive. 50pf might be kind of high.

Re: Tandy RG59U ?
That Canare is 42pf/ft
Mogami W2524 is about 39pf/ft
I think the white Teflon I have is below 35pf/ft
Wonder how that would affect amp tone even though there isn't that much used in the amp.
If the amp is too dark then perhaps that is a place to look at.
This is where I have bought cable and plugs before.

Re: Tandy RG59U ?
Thanks Tom. Yeah I think I will try the white Teflon. Anybody ever notice that Dumble used different coaxial on the clean and OD in #124? It is all white Teflon but it is definitely a thicker gauge in the OD(higher capacitance?).

Re: Tandy RG59U ?
I have some rg59 coax that measured @20pf that I swapped out all existing coax with and ended up swapping back in some rg174 for a couple of runs. It made the sound sterile to my ears with all 59. So my opinion is that you can use the type of coax to tailor your tone, swapping out by section. I get the input the clean I want first, then swap out for the od if needed.Structo wrote: Wonder how that would affect amp tone even though there isn't that much used in the amp.
Re: Tandy RG59U ?
This is a place I go too, they used to sell the Gepco cable which was @ 20pf or so. Great stuff. I asked them why they stopped stocking it and the answer was that Gepco stopped selling less than 10,000 feet at a time to anyone. What a shame, awesome cable for long guitar runs.Structo wrote:http://www.redco.com/Bulk-Instrument-Cable/
