Anybody ever built a Marwatt?

Post by pinkphiloyd »

I'm intrigued, but I'd like to hear one before I set off down that path, and I can't find any clips anywhere...

It's an 18W variant, fully documented at 18watt.com. You'd probably get better input over there on your questions.

I asked over there earlier yesterday. Lack of response was what led me to inquire here. So it goes...

I expect it sounds a lot like the other 18W amps. If you like that sort of thing, you'll probably like this one, too. Sorry you can't find a sound clip.

I haven't updated the thread of my build, but I still haven't put this chassis into a cab (not a standard size, need to have one built to fit). That's given me a chance to play with voicing and gain a little bit, so it does not follow the exact schematic or layout of the original on 18Watt.com.

I don't like the Marshall side of the amp compared to the HiWatt side; not enough volume and gain in comparision. The HiWatt side is fantastic - really tight, ballsy, great grit. Sounds good going through all of my different cabinets, which is not something I can say about all of my other amps.

Build one, or just build the HiWatt side and enjoy!

Yea, what I'm considering is just doing the Hiwatt side. Maybe in a Lightning chassis.
