National Professional Schematic Anyone Got?

Post by rp »

(1) 5U4, (4) 6V6, (2) 5879, and (2) 12AX7, Jensen Alnico 5 “Concert Series” P15Nspeaker.

Looks like an intriguing amp to clone. I especially like that it has no vibrato. Pentode front end? 4X 6V6! Drop one channel and it would be a quick project. I have a Canadian EMC C15N gathering dust too.

Absolutely nothing out there detailed or definitive concerning a clone, one guy on TGP, Leonc, built one but left little info behind. No schematic either, maybe someone has and can map or maybe there is a Valco/Supro/Gretch/etc equivalent that someone here can point me towards.

Man, looks a lot like a Gibson model, I mean with the 15" driver , that chrome metal handle and that tube set up!
But for the added two 6v6 outputs I would bet the circuit is very much like one of the Gibson Les Paul models as I think one of those used the pentode pre stage!

Good call on the GA-40, still would be nice to find a schematic for the actual Valco/National. I never gave it much thought, I always figured Gibson was big enough to make their amps in house, did they ever farm some of it out???

Maybe post a query on the Magnatone Valco Yahoo Group. Valco seems to have built amps for a fair number of brands.

Hey Martin, I didn't know yahoo groups still existed! I went and checked, it's like a trip back to 1995, like going back to usenet. It's the same obtuse format, I couldn't figure it out then or now, wasted 3 minutes trying to find the post and gave up. Yahoo group stuff doesn't even show up when you goggle search. I always figured then or now that if there was anything good on a yahoo group it wouldn't be on a yahoo group

I hear (and feel) you! There are some Valco experts there though.

Gibson never farmed out, but others copied as much as they could with out getting dragged into court!
