BTW: Of course there are (at least!) 5 basic voicings of the clean channel and (at least!) 5 basic voicings of the OD channel. Brandon forgot to mention the "pre-classic" clean channels of many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation ODS amps and the "pre-standard" OD channel of many 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation ODS amps.ayan wrote:No additional information has been mentioned since then. It seemed like the incarnation of Larry Carlton's latest Dumble, before moving on from HAD's amps and switching over to Bludo, was said to be a " Ripper/Megaplex." However, the clean section and the power amp were the same as a Blues Master in that amp, the difference being that the overdrive included a cathode follower and one gain stage instead of two gain stages like a regular BM. That would not explain what makes the "Ripper" the ripper...For what it's worth, although I never actually bonded with the BM, it can be made to sound great. My brief experiments with the LC overdrive circuit were different, that amp sounded harsher to me no matter what. Interestingly enough, I have found that every single Marshall amp I have played is capable of being dialed in to sound great, smooth or aggressive, but all the HRMs amps with internal overdrive tone controls have been a compromise to say the least. Re: Larry`s Dumble in this video
I love LC (and RF) in this video! Of his two Dumbles, I remember reading that he liked one more than the other. The one with Music Man trafos, Bluesmaster/Ripper OD with 5881's. I hear "ceramic cap" artifacts too.
Sounds like Mega Boost and the Ripper in this one (from the same show):

IMO,YMMV and all that good stuff!
Hope you're having a good one, Jim!
