Just finished reading this book by John Byrne Cook. Well worth it for anyone interested in JJ or the late 1960's music scene. Cooke was Joplin's road manager and friend from late 1967 through late 1970 (the end of her life). It's 391 pages contain more than one might expect, more than just an insider's view of a touring rock band. An interview with the author is here: http://www.npr.org/2014/11/29/366614537 ... compassion but the interviewer only scratches the surface by asking the obvious. Current events are dropped in as anchor points and, lest anyone forget, during that brief period there was a lot going on: The ML King Jr and Robert Kennedy assassinations and subsequent protests, the expansion of the Vietnam war, the Apollo moon landing, Woodstock, Kent State...
An interesting thing about reading such a book in this day and age is that if a particular event, performance, or interview is discussed, you can very likely go out and find it on You Tube. This is truly mind-blowing when you are reading about a time when the only phone was a land-line and TV was three or four channels.

Images of Her
I had a chance to shoot some pictures of here way back in 1968, she did a great concert in Queens NY. Super talent.
It was a tumultuous time for sure. My dad passed way between RFK and MLK assassinations. I was in college and I thought the world had gone insane. The Music kept me inspired and going forward. So much great music then.

Hey Martin -
Thanks for the book info.
As you imply.....it will take in more than just her life, which was in no small part, a product of those very tumultuous times.
I look forward to reading it.
Thanks Again
