The "desktop" view in Win 8 looks pretty much like Win 7, which looks pretty much like Windows has always looked.

My desktop for Windows 8.1 looks Nothing like XP.
It looks like my sister in-laws Apple Computer screen.

Sorry...wrong term
The "desktop" does look the same...but desktop icons is not how we navigate.
A couple people told me about something called ...Classic Shell.
Man...THAT is what I needed. It makes navigating 8.1 look VERY Similar to XP (and I guess Windows 7).
This is MUCH easier to use. I have NO Idea why Microsoft would Completely Change the way their computers work/look.

Windows 8.1 looks like what I see when I look at the Apple Ipod that my wife has...or the Smart Phones that Everybody (except me apparently) in the grocery store has glued to their face.
Anyway...thanks for the assist. I will look at those two Schem Programs.
Thank You Very Much :)

I see no need for the classic shell... Once you open the "file explorer" from the task bar in Win 8 desktop view, getting around is pretty much like any other OS, be it Mac or Windows.

Navigation is close to the same from the desktop, but not exactly. There is still the problem of how to close apps because all the running apps don't necessarily show up on the desktop. You have to park the cursor in the upper left hand corner, wait for the app to appear, drag it to the bottom, wait for it to flip before it will close. Definitely different. There are other differences as well, but they are not major. Requires a little investigation and a little patience. So far, it seems like a pretty good OS (not perfect) and I am not a MS fan. The built-in pdf reader is quirky and stopped working on my machine. Adobe fixed that.

The change was made so that one OS can handle touch devices and those with traditional keyboard and mouse.

IF you use ExpressSCH as mentioned by Colossal, you can use it to open and edit 100's of schematics and layouts here:

http://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?board=12.0

Plus TAG has editable SCH schematics for Trainwreck, Dumble, Marshall, Fender and Vox amps in the schematics forums.

Thanks for posting this. Anyone having problems making connecting dots between components? Making the connecting lines is easy but making the dots is a PITA.

Before 2014 is gone...I NEED to learn (and download) a Schematic Drawing Program. Is this not the right one for a first time schem maker who Is Not good with computers.?
Thank You
Mr. Moore,

You might just want to find and use a basic (or advanced) drawing program and make your own library of virtual part symbols. I use a vector based drawing tool that can output to almost any format (including CAD formats) and just made my own collection of symbols. I do all of my schematic work using this program.
I believe you, but.....find a drawing program.?
Does that mean punch "drawing program" into my computer.?
Make my own collection of symbols...I understand what that means, but I have no idea How/Where I would generate the symbols.

Is there some type of...Duncan Tone Stack Calculator...for drawing a schematic.?
I am not kidding when I say I have NO computer skills. I probably need to learn some...but to put it into perspective...until 6 months ago, I thought Windows XP was THE best operating system for a computer. I had No Idea it was (by modern standards) obsolete, and on its way out.
Two weeks ago I bought a new Dell Laptop. Just a "simple" model...so I can access the Internet.
I have NO Idea what The F Windows 8.1 is.
I can barely turn the computer on. I cannot navigate the 8.1 at all.
It is completely different than XP.
It would be like taking somebody that had driven cars with an automatic transmission for 30 years, and then put them behind the wheel of a manual 5 speed. Yeah...its a car, but there is no way they will be able to drive it.
So I need THAT kind (if there is one) of a schem drawing program.
I did not even own computer until 1999
Try this one - it's easy to use (to me anyway)

https://code.google.com/p/diy-layout-creator/

If you want to make W8.1 a lot more friendly and easy to navigate like your old XP install Classic Shell and it will look like the old days but work like now. I have it on my 8.1 laptop.

++1 on ExpressSCH Fast & easy.
I was using Autocad which is overkill, but recently I've been using ExpressSch.
Open an existing schematic that's close & modify it.
Thanks to 10thtx for all his work that he provides us for free.

On the Hoffman forum/EL34 world, the website got upgraded and it lost a few links to the schematics.

However, Hoffman created a list of "good" links to those threads with missing links to the schematics here: http://el34world.com/Forum/index.php?topic=17420.0

Most of the threads in the Hoffman SCH Library have good links, but for the few that don't, you can still find the good link in that list.

Why when I come back to my saved schematic everything is skewed up? Where the component is supposed to be all I get is a pink block that only represents when a reistor or cap is supposed to be.

To fix it I have to re enter one single resistor to the page, then reopen the saved project. Now all the resistors show up. This has to be done for every single component variant. This will be anoying lol

RockinRocket,

What program are you using? I've never had that happen with ExpressSCH.
