weber 10" alnico ?
How are the weber signature series?
I have a 4/10 bassman build brewing, the hitch is the price point of alnico drivers.
Weber's 53$ price is great, hows the results?....

I really like the sound of 2 Alinco magnet types and 2 ceramic types!

I have both the signature and classic weber 10's. The signature is my least favorite, the classic is much better. I would consider the Eminance Lil' Buddy or Jensen Falcon Jet (the sleeper of the bunch).

The Falcon 10" is pretty nice for the price. Lots of bottom end, sounds broken in rightout of the box. Can't really comment on the Weber. Also, Celestion Greenback 10" is my favorite 10". Just sayin'.

With the amount of high frequency hearing loss I have, you should take this with a grain of salt, but here goes...
I put a Weber Alnico Sig 10 in my single ended 6v6 amp. Over all I thought sounded pretty sweet, as long as I kept the bass turned down.
Recently I put in an Eminence Lil' Buddy which is quite a contrast.--very clean sounding, and considerably less high end.

appreciate the responses, I know its tuff to sluth out tone choices, to complicate matters, you can't really know until the driver breaks in.
falcon?
I've been curious about the jensen jet, the price is right...

Re: weber 10" alnico ?
I was intending to use the Eminence lil buddy in an amp I'm marketing when I saw Rob Perez from CE Dist. at the NAMM show and he convinced me to give the (then new) Falcon Jet 10 a try. What a shocker...the over-all tone and the bottom end are really great. They are nothing like the other Jensen 10" import speakers. Since then, I've used many of the 10" version and have been installing the 12" version (Falcon 12, 50watt) as a replacement in Deluxe Reverbs and Hot Rod series amps when guys want to "upgrade". The green-coned Jensens are real sleepers and the price is great.
I break-in most speakers using Ted Weber's formula and although the Jensen Jet series' tone improves with it, the change is not as dramatic as with a Jensen C10Q (which is transformed with the process).

I like their 10" silver bell. Decent chime, and early greenback voiced. Their 10" blue is chimier(is that a word?) But less forgiving.

I'm in the market for 4 x 10" on this restoration project Fender 5G12
I did try a quad of US made Jensen's ceramic out of my Super Reverb.
Sounded great the Falcon 10 may just be the ticket.
Thank you, Steve.

Jensen just announced the Jensen P10R-F. Designed in collaberation with Fender to replicate the P10R from the '50s.
Re: weber 10" alnico ?
Speakers "breaking in" is yet another "audio myth". It really does not happen....when a speaker is brand new in the box..things might be a little stiff, but after the first first position "E" chord played at a resonable level its done. The rest of what happens to a speaker over time are the changes caused by the absorption of moisture etc. We hear different things each time we listen, because that's the way our brains work.

Re: weber 10" alnico ?
I use to think it was sort of a myth too until I tried using Ted Weber's process on a new Jensen C10Q. That speaker has a reputation for being "tight" with poor bass response when new. I wondered if I would be able to discern a real improvement during the break-in process. To my surprise, the speaker actually bloomed right before my ears, in a matter of about 10 minutes, it was transformed into a much more full sounding speaker with better bass. To confirm the improvement, I compared a "processed" C10Q with a new unprocessed speaker and the difference was significant. Since then, I have used the process on many speakers and although the improvement with others has not been as dramatic as with a Jensen C10Q, the process does provide a less stiff feel to new speakers.
The process does not create that flabby sound you get from speakers that have been in high humidity environments that absorb moisture.
Try it.
