Re: Lowering the gain in my Wreck
You might have heard the one lone country track on my CD "Country Ham" where I recorded my original Express with a 12AY7 in V1 & V2. Works well, makes a BIG difference in gain, and it's easy to change back. Using this trick, a Tele, and x4 Alnico blues gave me a nice clean country tone for the day.

I would add that Slow/Fast Response switch like in the Komets. With a flick of the switch you can go from (almost) clean to scream without changing freq response so much.

Re: Lowering the gain in my Wreck
I had success using a 12au7 in V2. However its much more fun just the way it was designed.

Re: Lowering the gain in my Wreck
12AY7's are what I have to use in V1 and V2 of my latest amp to get the clarity I also use a 12AT7 in the PI. My amp isn't a wreck though and still has plenty of gain, it has a really nice strat tone. Phil

here's a clip of my wreck http://snotpope.com/downloads/The_Night ... /e-bow.mp3
it's not a recording or anything serious. the two guitars are panned - the
marshall jcm2000 is on the left side and the ceriatone on the right

I agree, the easiest is to just use the 12AY7 .. another one would be to change the feedback resistor to around a 27k.. then some of the other things that were posted of changing the 150k resistor or using a trim pot to find the sweet spot your looking for. Like was said, quite a few things will do it, just have to find what your wanting, and still keep the tone of the amp.

Can't you also futz with the 9.1k power resistors to change the plate voltages?
