lovetone, It was a wiring error in the computer generated layout.

It's fixed now the PI is set 6 volts differential. But with the wiring error

the amp had feedback and harmonics on volume 3 I may put a switch

to go back and forth.

5E4 Tweedle dee mod

Post by groovtubin »

Just finished doing my 5E4 super, ALL i did was driver tweak, added my EJ fuzz n dual jumped the low input jacks of both channels n CRANKED it, it`s REALLY REALLY sweet even SANS the cathode PT bias, i`m also running diodes vs rect tube, but have a sag resistor in line....for all who have one, change that one meg from grid to cathode of driver.. to a 100ohm :) It gets that syrupy saggy lead tone seriously sweeet! Thank you Charlie! Really appreciate the info.....

Jim sounds like a fun amp you built. I had big fun tonight with the D Deluxe at band practice
no effects just 1960 Burst and amp and couldn't turn it up past 2. And many thanks' to
Robert Hinson for the 5/59 OPT. Sweet little 15 pound amp that sounds like no other.

Best regards, Steve.

Steve had a 56TD i blv in for repair years ago, now that thing was awesome! To my ears it really was THE source for HAD laying a foundation for the tone of his amps. It was BIG fat n juicy yet dry n reedy like a watermelon! bet a fender pro junior/blues deluxe could be taken in this direction? :)

Hv fun, wish mine was a 5E3! lol! This thing is LOUD! lol!

I really think itsa TEN meg in adobe photoshop! lol! the 100 ohm snds cool for recording! U could put a switch on it i guess.. My 5E4 is LOUD...so it works well as a attenuator and affecting the tone in a NICE way.. :)

It looked like 10 meg, but I thought that was odd, so, I'm a fool. So where did this 100 ohm mod come from?

I tried the 100R in place of the 1M all it does for me is to reduce the gain because of the high NFB none of the harmonics that Steve was talking about.

I hear ya, it might b cool for something who knows, i went back to stock, n tried a few tricks, it`s a killin now! The 5E4 is awesome for this driver tweak, it already has alot more power...so not alot is really needed..my crunch on this amp now w/treble up is just FANTASTIC, and has massive harmonic content w/o pedals..Mine snds like a great plexi on roids w/o killin ya! lol! BUT thru my 4 x 12 evh cab its INSANE!!!!!!! I can`t blv it!

Don't be cruel, This is my favorite guitar amp so far I only have 12 hours of play time on it.
One live gig and 4 practices. I like it so much I ordered all the parts for #2
Doug our keyboard player recorded the gig on his I phone. I'm amazed of the sound quality.
#2 gets a Mercury Magnetics 5E3 transformer set. Both amps have a 4 input so you can jumper them.

Hey Steve!

As always a great build. Going to start mine this weekend.

Did you use 6PS or 715 orange drops?

Eric, The first one has .1uf CDE and SBE mix. The second build has SBE.
One thing use rubber grommets on V-1 & V-2 on the chassis to mount the 9 pin tube sockets.
Easy Albert King I just rebuilt my old 66 Pro Reverb I let Albert use back in 1988
A Doctor friend owns that amp now I tried to buy it back from him no deal.
