SSS story
I see you guys discuss the 150 watt Steel String Singer a lot. I once worked on Stevie Ray's live gear and he had a 300 watt SSS with six 6550 power tubes. Can't say it was sort of like and SVT because it was an SVT power amp. The head contained an Ampeg SVT power amp chassis with the Dumble Fender style preamp. Basically a 300 watt Twin? Not sure if this amp was something weird but I have never seen another like it.
Re: SSS story
Must have been a Dumbleland 300
Re: SSS story
Tommy Shannon used a 300w SL/Dumbleland as early as '83. Was the amp black with black chassis, flamingo symbol on it?

Re: SSS story
Interesting story. This is something in between a mod and a complete build, and not something HAD was known to do previously. At least not by me.

Thanks for posting Bruce
Intresting..There are rumors SRV had as many as 3 Dumbles at one time..It could have been 1 of the 3 or possibly a loaner Dumble sent him since he was constantly having trouble with the Blackface one..Either way I could see where SRV would like a modded SVT/Fender/Dumble pre for guitar and running in AB2 with a whopping 300 watts is right up his alley..
