Reissue- Telefunken
http://www.telefunken-elektroakustik.co ... cts/tubes/
So..It looks as though TELEFUNKEN Elektroakustik, in partnership with JJ Tubes from the Carpathian Mountains of Cadca in Slovakia, have come up with a reissue version of the classic Telefunken vacuum tubes..
Chances are these tubes will sound nothing like the classics made 40 years ago, when our technology was tube dependent..Personally I don't know how they perform so let's try and keep the speculation to a minimum and try and post some reviews here to see if we can form an overall consensus on how these tubes perform in guitar amps..Anybody try these yet?
Thanks
Tony

Are these available yet? A quick search didn't turn up anyone offering them for sale.

If you go to where to buy on the page I posted you will see the list of dealers..Some include ..Guitar Center and Musicians Friend and a number of smaller audio outlets!..I don't know if they actually carry them yet?
BTW.. I just hope some of these dealers act responsibility when pricing these tubes!!

Yes, so I did the search to see if anyone was heralding their appearance on the retail stage. Nada.
Let's see... NOS are $100-$200... I think $50 would be a fair price, don't you?

Re: Reissue- Telefunken
1. I wonder if they snagged the Telefunken machinery that went to EI before the Balkan wars.
2. I expect they will be demanding out-of-sight prices because it has "something to do with the mighty Telefunken."
3. I'm willing to give anything a try. Who knows maybe they're all that and a bag o' chimps.
I CAN say I've been positively impressed with the JJ 12AX7's I get HG+ rated from Ruby. Not fizzy, tizzy, clanky or geiger-counter pop pop pop. Very even response and fade-to-black at the end of notes. Let's see what these ersatz Telefunkens do - if we can afford them. As opposed to Northern Electrics' $60 12AX7. Neither my clients nor I can afford that. Wonder if NE are selling any?

Re: Reissue- Telefunken
Whatever, it's good to see the variety of new manufactured tubes continuing to increase.
Re: Reissue- Telefunken
I think they should be around the same price as Mullard reissues...Although they advertise these are cryogenically treated
and burned in they will be no doubt want more..
If demand rises then raise away!!!
Can I opt out for the cryo treatment...

Re: Reissue- Telefunken
Slapping a TFK logo on tube types that TFK never designed nor produced (6L6, 6550) seems a little..what's the word? Chutzpah?
Click on tube picture to see specs and prices.
Specs are standard JJ specs, no min/max values are given, only typical.
So if your ECC83 does not show typical values in test measurement you have no claim on warranty because there is no parameter spread data.
I really don't like all this branding race. It's funny how they don't brand them TESLA anymore. Perhaps the reason is that the good old Tesla data sheets were much more detailed than any other.
Cryo? How low can you sink?

Re: Reissue- Telefunken
Yes, the pictures show stock JJ tubes with a Telelfunken logo on. JJ just buying the right to use the name and logo to compete with Reflector in Russia and whoever else is digging up the old manufacturer names to try to enhance their products by reflecting some of the glory of those old tubes.
Unfortunately they will still sound like JJ, Sovtek etc. and very little like the old tubes, nor give anything like the duty hours they did.
Depressingly most guitarists I know who's limit of amp understanding is where the on switch is, actually believe that these re-issue Mullards, Tung-sols etc. are bona-fide copies of the originals!

273C below, that's how low. Stop those electrons so they can't move.VacuumVoodoo wrote: Cryo? How low can you sink?
Maybe that explains the high rate of failure in Mullard marked tubes. I refuse to call them reissues. They are Sovteks with Mullard painted on them. Just like horses painted with stripes, doesn't make them zebras.
Anything made in Russia, automatically cryo treated. Especially in the winter.
For the record, it is Mike Matthews of New Sensor that has made a lot of hay, and confusion, by buying the right to use logos of the well-known manufacturers of the past and printing them on his Sovteks. Mike Matthews started by making ElectroHarmonix pedals & effects in the late 1960's so that name & logo are already his. Perhaps "some" of the prestige brand marked tubes are above average - I've heard good things about the "Gold Lion" series - but most, I suspect are just more work of the charlatan. And NONE are true reissues, except for the logos painted on the glass, and printed on the box.

They aren't even printing on the tubes with white chalk.

Re: Reissue- Telefunken
The 12AX7 looks just like JJ to me. Very short plate, more like a 12AT7. Certainly nothing like a long plate Telefunken.
As an industrial sales guy for many years, to me this has all the hallmarks of an old marketing maxim, "if you can't fix it, feature it".
At best these will be selected tubes that don't snap, crackle and pop or expire after 3 months. $38 is pretty high me thinks.

Which you can source HG+ 12AX7A CZ @ Ruby for @ one third the price. Print up your own label, stick 'em on, and stick it to your customers. I'll bet you a Euro it's the same dam' thing.David Root wrote:The 12AX7 looks just like JJ to me. Very short plate,

Real Telefunken:

Not real Telefunken:

It would seem they're not trying very hard. OTOH their website says nothing about these tubes being reissues of the original designs.

Let's be fair. One is ECC83 the other is E88CC two very different tubes, you can't use it for comparison.
