PITA for sure...

funny with the different tapers in different brands, one would think they would be similar.

I do understand the insistence that one is superior, its like trying to convince a three year old that any ordinary red crayon is just as good as any other red crayon from any other box of crayons.

You will loose the discussion in the end, and are better off letting the kid play with his favorite red crayon.

I seem to remember seeing datasheets stating that the CTS standard audio taper is 10%, Alpha is 15%.

I just re-checked. You're right, at mid position I'm getting 13% of a 500k log audio pot. Don't know were I got the Alpha's that gave me +30% (don't have them anymore). In the Alpha log pots I've got now, taper is more or less lineal between 0 and 50% and between 50% and 100%. PEC does proximate log scale better anywhere else...
