I implemented this : http://forum.metroamp.com/download/file.php?id=4764 in my 1987 50w. Single input, so I'm just using the "top" half of schematic. I like the sounds, and it's very quiet in extra stage mode, but quite noisy in plexi mode! Obviously the opposite of what I expected. So I disconnected part of the extra gain stage from the switch, and long story short, the noise is coming from the junction of the two 68Ks at the grid of the 2nd stage(or 1st stage in plexi mode). No loop either here.
When I took off the 68K from the grid, that the added stage has from the wiper of the 1st vol pot, the amp was nice and quiet. Full disclosure I'm using 470K/470K divider here instead of a pot. So basically the troublesome 68k becomes a grid leak in series with a 470k/470k voltage divider...I think.
Has anyone tried this circuit or have any ideas?

So the added stage is floating open when the plexi mode is enabled? No?

Yes I believe so, especially right now, as I have nothing on the grid of the first added gain stage. The other 68k gets grounded when in high gain mode, but the problematic 68k goes to the vol wiper(divider in my case) then to ground

I put in a pot like in the schematic, instead of the 470 divider,(which is for high gain mode) and of course, running the plexi mode, that pot is basically a variable grid leak for the plexi , and obviously th gain control for the high gain mode . No bueno.

Re: Jose mod noise
Got it. My clue was the grounding on the switch, and how the 68k leak got a proper ground when in high gain mode, but not in plexi mode. I ran the 68k leak (was on wiper) from the grid to the unused lug on the switch, than ran wiper to the same lug, which grounds the entire extra 1st stage, as well as the 68k when in plexi mode. Gobs of gain in high gain mode. This may be my fave hot rod so far, and I haven't even moved the MV to before tone stack, or put in diodes, and 1st stage plate is still 100k. Yikes!

I thought you would figure that one out pretty fast. All while I was napping.

Re: Jose mod noise
Thanks for asking the right question
Here's what I've done :[img:799:325]http://www.whiteghostshivers.com/images ... do1rev.jpg[/img]
How does the 68k/68k divider affect things as opposed to say 470k/470k, generally speaking? I mean I don't think in this input spot for plexi mode I'd want a 470K grid stopper, but for discussion, say after 2nd stage? Geez I'm full of questions these days.
