redplated el84's toast?

Post by Jerry2013 »

I read someplace where redplating was very bad for a tube. I let my el84's redplate for about 30 seconds before shutting down the amp.
I have no way to test them, but are these tubes likely bad now?

30 seconds of redplating is probably not a killer unless the metal looked almost transparent in the middle and bright cherry for half of that time.

Oof.

Flashbulbs. I am scared of 84s. They are so slight. Eeks.

They might be fine, or might not. Test them out in amp with a cooler bias and see if they still give typical current vs grid voltage.
