D'Lite - combo or head/cab

Post by johan »

Hi,
For a D'Lite44 amp would you go for a 1x12" combo or a head with a 1x12" or 2x12" cab?

I'm thinking 12" Celestion Heritage 65's and an oval rear port

Which version will sound "best"?

Just build 2 :D
Seriously if your the kind of player thats going from Jam to Jam you definitely want a 1x12 combo for the easiest set up/ least pretentious look and you can always set it on a matching 1x12 extension cabinet. A separate head allows the flexibility of using different sizes and numbers of speakers in various cabinets with the same "core" amp.
Unless you're on tour with roadies to set up the equipment I'd recommend building a combo style.

Then go head cab... 100%. It's easier to make changes, different baffle or back since you don't have to think about heat and venting. You'll also have less trouble with rattling and vibrating components. I'm chasing a rattle in the reverb pan of my gigging combo, what a pain but I don't want to lug around 2 pieces when one will do.

Thanks!
Saw the 1x12" cab on the Brown note site. Compact but how's the sound compared to a 2x12"? Some say the g1265 is best in a 2x12 cab and not so good on it's own in a 1x12 cab. .
