Take better care of yourselves.
I recently spent a night in the emergency room. Thought I was having a heart attack. Turned out to be stomach issues. Haven't really been taking good care of myself over the years, but I'm getting better and eating better.
Big change of venue when you're laying on a hospital bed, thinking you're dying, and you look over at your wife and kids, and realize they're more important than that next hamburger.
You young guys, realize there's hell to pay when you're older.

It's never too late to have a happy childhood.

I hear you Lefty take care of yourself. A lot of us feel older then we actually are.
Most days I don't do anything until the grand kids come home in the late afternoon. Then I try help watch them since my wife works all day and they stay over night with us most week nights.
Feel like crap most of the time, they fixed my heart but the arthritis is winning the battle with pain and fatigue.

Even turned down amp rental for touring bands coming to Fargo because I had no energy to go out of the house. Maybe Spring will get me moving.
Didn't even want to go see Kid Rock with local Fargo artist Shannon Curfman playing guitar for him and had Bob Seger with them. I never should have missed that concert.
Everyone take care of yourself.

Re: Take better care of yourselves.
There certainly is something to be said about the title of this thread. It's often a lot easier to do many other things well rather than take good care of one's self, especially the way things are these days in this country. I've been feeling the same way recently, and am really going to make an effort eating healthier and exercising more because like you guys say, the older we get, the worse off we'll be. I'm still new here, but you guys are very cool and I hope everyone is doing well. Hope everything is working out alright Lefty. Feel better.

I've jumped on that bandwagon. I quit smoking 9 years ago but then gained some weight. Not a lot but more than I wanted. So for the last several months I've been drinking lots of water - all the time, and watching carbs and fat intake. So far I've lost 25 lbs and hope to shed a few more. I feel Much better and fit into jeans comfortably that I almost threw away 6 or 7 years ago. I highly recommend whatever can be done to improve your health. Heck, I went hiking today with my wife, up and down the hills - didn't even get winded.
My life has gotten really good and I want to stretch it out as much as possible. Besides . . . . . there are amps to be built!

Drinking water is great.
Anther simple but often overlooked thing is breathing properly.
I only became aware of this from my opposite number on a nightmare construction site in Poland.
It was a project where you would see grown men reduced to tears.
I asked how he could always remain so calm and he said that he learnt how to breathe from spending time with Russian special-ops guys.
He said it changed his life so much for the better.
But you don't need to be a Спецназ, anybody can do it.
Learning to breathe is central in yoga and many martial arts.
I never thought about it before.
I made a five minute routine each morning with the window flung wide open.
Paying more attention during the day and learning some technique has really helped through tough times and health-lows.
All the best everyone,
tony

Sweating is the best way to get rid of toxins.Sweat everyday.

Great posts. If you have the patience to design and build an amp, one can dedicate themselves to breathing and exercise.
I do yoga and try to work out with heavy weight at least three times a week. I feel worse when i stop. At mid 40s i might be a younger guy here but kids job and life still get in the way. No matter one's age, stay fit.
I will say yoga was huge for me. Wish i started 30 years ago...

+1 on the sweating. Cardio is your friend. Weights are important, but they don't have to be heavy. Proper form is critical, don't sling the weights around and don't use jerky motions. Avoid injury at all costs. Work on your diet incrimentally. You can't out-train your diet.

Yeah, ain't it fun getting old.....

I commented to my wife the other day that I feel like I have aged 10 years in the last two years.
With her own health issues she agreed.
I need to drop about 25-30 pounds and get into shape.
Get on my bicycle and ride!
The meds I'm on seem to slow my metabolism which packs on the weight.
Along with a appetite that never seems satisfied.
Whoever coined the term "the golden years" was either young or off their rocker.

Re: Take better care of yourselves.
The Lizard King (Jim Morrison) said "No one here gets out alive." That seems a "glass is half-empty" sentiment.
I try to be more optimistic than that, and see the glass as half-full ...... so my saying is "If living doesn't kill you, nothing else will." Big difference.

Gold?! It's more like the brown that newspaper turns.Structo wrote: Whoever coined the term "the golden years" was either young or off their rocker.
In truth I can't complain too much. I had a rotator fixed a couple of years a go, otherwise nothing major. Can't switch my schedule around like I use to though without getting all fuzzy . . . like now.
Re: Take better care of yourselves.
I hear you guys, I feel like I have aged 10 years in the past couple also. I have slipped into a lifestyle of spending too much time working (not really by my choice) for a real aggressive boss. And not having enough time to have fun and exercise. I feel like my body is starting to turn on me. I've gone from being an active outdoorsman to a sedentary old fart.
The wife and I have decided we need a complete and total lifestyle change so that we have more time for staying in shape. That will probably involve changing jobs, since part-time is not an option at my company.
Life's too short to spend it working and saving for a retirement that may never happen. We need to enjoy life all the time. And I like the idea of better breathing, too!
I'd be pissed if I died with those JTM45 parts sitting in a box under the bench.

Don't you boys know any NICE songs?

Hope you're feeling better!
Watch the stomach issues. I had Celiac disease "turn on" two years ago and it nearly killed me (literally!).
Get Well soon!

Re: Take better care of yourselves.
They put me on Omeprazole (Prilosec). I'm eating better and starting to exercise. My doctor still wants me to go for a stress test.
I used to do yoga when I was younger. I need to get back into to that.
I do have a pretty good hike from the bus stop to my office that I always take at a brisk enough pace to get my heart pumping.
The ER visit definitely put a scare in me, but maybe it's for the best.

Re: Take better care of yourselves.
I spent half the last 9 months in one hospital or another. The first 2 weeks of that I was hanging by a thread. Just recovering from the final operation about 2 weeks ago. It will take me another two months to get back to 100%.
Still, I quit smoking 36 years ago, and drinking a year ago. I'll be 68 in May, no time to waste, I think. Starting a first generation Dumble already!
