BTF wrote:I love Gilmour, but after "Wish You Were Here"- my favorite PF album- it just went downhill for me. "The Wall" was the straw. Despite David's gargantuan tones and playing, it just wears me out listening to it. I feel like Waters ought to pay me for playing psychiatrist to his "talking cure". :)

I can listen to "Wish..." and "Echoes" most any day (don't listen much to "Dark...", strangely). Rick Wright's keyboard playing kept getting pushed farther back into the mix (in part due to his own personal problems, admittedly), and I've come to realize that his playing and note choice influenced my guitar phrasing nearly as much as David's.
I love Richard's phrasing. If you haven't seen "The Making of Dark Side of The Moon" get it, you love seeing him sit at a piano and discuss chord choices.

Really like all the stuff before The Wall.
Echoes (Meddle), Animals, Wish you were here.
Some of Darkside.
Amazing live shows back in the day.
Must have been scary expensive to put on.

Actually, Lefty, as a matter of fact I do have that DVD. I fixed a kid's Hot Rod Deluxe a few years ago no charge and he bought me that knowing I was a Floyd fan.

The thing I remember best on that DVD was the tape loop for "Money" being run off the tape machine, around a mic stand, and back on to the machine!
Made me feel better considering some of my low-tech schemes!

If you ever get a chance to see the "Making of 'Wish You Were Here'", it's exceptional. Acoustic versions of 'Have a Cigar' (with Roger asserting how he could have sung the song better than Roy Harper), and 'Welcome to the Machine'. I also liked the story of expensive studio time being wasted while the band shot at a dart board with an air rifle.

I met a fellow at college who got to see them in Miami during a mid-70's show. All he did was rave about the Azimuth Coordinator which moved sound throughout the stadium.

I didn't even know they made that one. So far I have:

Making of...

- Sqt Pepper
- Electric Lady Land
- Dark Side of the Moon.

All three I treasure. I'm off to Amazon...

Ask me about RATM.

Day One: show up unshowered and rent a limo to go to the strip club

Day Two: same. Inform producer you have some ideas for songs

Day Three: have no songs

Day Four: record fucking unintelligible noise for a couple hours then go unshowered to strip club

Day Five: producer starts mixes

Day..

The 'Dark Side...' DVD is a skeleton compared to the 'WYWH"!

There are great stories about the "burning man", Storm discusses the album pics, and there are some interesting bits about Syd, of course. Seeing Richard is especially touching as the production must have been done just before his passing. He and David were always my faves.

Brian Humphries and Roy Harper are interesting in the "WYWH" DVD. I felt that they put off a slight bitter edge when talking about the album. I wondered if perhaps Floyd's immense wealth maybe soured them a bit.

"Remember That Night" has a great travelogue tour documentary that shows a very warm relationship between David and Rick. I believe David must have known about Rick during the tour as he seems more like a doting brother than a bandmate.

Well, you know you just have to buy enough stuff on Amazon to get Super Saver Shipping :-)

From that Classic Albums series:

- Wish You Were Here
- Who's Next
- Paranoid
- Night at the Opera

Four DVD's and still only spent $30.

Animals has Gilmores best playing.Just seems like he got to cut loose on that one.

We spent way to many hours Listening to Uma-Gumma in High school. Probaly why my brain is slow now.

Saw pF on the Division Bell tour at the Rose Bowl in '94. 80,000 people at that show. Epic!

I never tire of DSOTM, Animals, or WYWH. Timeless and always fresh and interesting. Been enjoying Gilmour's On An Island winding down the evening.

Not new material, but Gilmour's tone and feel the solos on "From an Island" on Live at Gdansk is pretty amazing to me.
