Finally starting to egt around to a new TW build, i am aiming to use the preamp section from a Express into the PI and power section off a rockster to give me a bit more choice on tubes.
The first question being how tight can it be packaged, i have a decent Marshall style chassis that should take everything but it will be a tight squeeze.
The second being an anyone see any potencial problems using the Express preamp with a different PI and power section
Cheers in advance

Might as well build an Express right?

I like the idea of using 6l6,el34. 6v6 without having to rebias all the timeM Fowler wrote:Might as well build an Express right?

How does that work?jestaudio wrote:I like the idea of using 6l6,el34. 6v6 without having to rebias all the timeM Fowler wrote:Might as well build an Express right?

The rockster power section is cathode biased, plug and play within reasoncbass wrote:How does that work?jestaudio wrote:I like the idea of using 6l6,el34. 6v6 without having to rebias all the timeM Fowler wrote:Might as well build an Express right?
Re: TW style build
Some El34's and 6v6's will swap out in a fixed bias amp with out adusting bias voltage.
I would just build the express

Re: TW style build
An Express power section will run any of those like-based octals, KF said just swap 6V6 for EL34; 6L6 needs a tweak, but really if you have an external bias adjust and test jacks it takes all of 30 seconds to reset the bias. But if you really want cathode bias, why not just convert the Express? You could even put in a switch and have it both ways!
