I have the opportunity to buy one of these for $150. I couldn't buy the tubes and cabinet for this amount. Would this make a good Dumble conversion?
It is the 4xEl34 model.
Thanks

I just a had a look at the schematics and a photo of the head (front shot). Aside from the cosmetic issue of covering up that Graphic EQ, and assuming you're prepared to mostly gut it, I think this could make a good conversion candidate (If it were me, I'd try it). Some interior shots of the physical layout would be a great help though.
My 0.02 cents.

I was thinking of fabricating a new chassis and just using the transformers.

Seems to me there's a good chance or saving the chassis, tube sockets (unless they're board mounted), plugs, fuse holder, a bit of the wiring and maybe some of the pots and switches too in addition to the iron. If it was only for the cabinet and transformers, I'm not sure I'd bother.galtjunk wrote:I was thinking of fabricating a new chassis and just using the transformers.
You could get a panel fabricated to cover the graphic EQ holes (and any others you don't need) and relable the ones you use as appropriate.

I've had good luck with faceplates from a local Trophy shop and from Kinkos. I built a 5E3 into a Bell & Howell projector extension cabinet and had it printed as Bellows & Howls. The cabinet had a 1952 P12N in it. It turned out well.odourboy wrote:Seems to me there's a good chance or saving the chassis, tube sockets (unless they're board mounted), plugs, fuse holder, a bit of the wiring and maybe some of the pots and switches too in addition to the iron. I'll have to open up the Carvin to see what else I can salvage. If I can't use it, I can probably make a couple of bucks on it or use it for trade goods.
