Non-BM, HRM, Dual Masters wiring ?

Post by ToneMerc »

I've seen the master(s) of HRM amps wired in different configs. For a straight HRM, dual master setup, is the OD relay wiring correct? I need a sanity check please.

That one is the global master
This is the one with the dual masters..

Tony so what's normacy for the straight HRM, the global master? Since, the dual master is seen in the BM.

thanks

So the first volume is wired as normal but the Master is wired as a OD master?

I thought that was what the OD volume was for?

This seems similar if not identical to thee wiring scheme I'm using in my second gen, clean master and OD master. I like it a lot!!! You can crank the clean to juice the OD but keep the volume matched when channel switching back to clean.

Unless there is something else you are after??

I consider the BM a variation on the HRM design..(different tone stack and modified output section) I actually built an amp off that layout you posted years ago w/global master and the result was an amp that was difficult to balance, (I suppose due to the impedance in-balance of the 1MA pot feeding a 1MA pot as well as the low gain entrance network) ..The OD channel didn't have enough volume to keep up with the clean channel, If you dimmed everything it came close but at that point it was way to gain-ey...
The OD Level becomes the OD master and the Master becomes the clean Master..
BTW If you like a high gain tone at whisper volumes, the layout Mike posted will get you real close!!

.The OD channel didn't have enough volume to keep up with the clean channel
I initially wired my BM clone this way. It was quite alarming to have your clean channel louder than your OD channel. Personally, I think the circuit is incorrect and it should be dual master volumes.

Also I'm not too fond of a HRM amp using the Dumbleator, it thickens up the tone too much, though some would argue that could be sorted out with the HRM eq.

I like the BM eq, though the Skyliner eq is equally good too.
Yours Sincerely
