I don't quite understand the "CF driver on the power tubes" trick.

I understand if you want to protect a commercial design, but can you reaveal a little bit about this??

its been a industry STD a LONG time, SVT was doing it when alot of the guys on this forum were in diapers! lol! Look at this schemtic, it`s already been posted tho, old hifi stuff.... thing is you HAVE ta have a xtra secondary that`l handle the current of the (2) tubes w/bias requirements......you COULD try to use the secondary input on a twin power, but mo than likely you`d cook it! ;( Just get a say 1-2 amp tranny with say a 120-0-120 secondary, read up on this site and roll yer own!!

The cathode follower driver on the power tubes is kind of stolen from the SSS however mine is capacitor coupled rather than DC coupled, it keeps the power tubes from dragging down the phase inverter.

The sound produced by your Longhorn amps is exactly what I'm after with Dumble designs. Having build both bluesmaster, #183 and #102, and being mainly a blues player, so far only the #102 really shines with my tele/strat guitars.

Tried the #124 initially, but was probably not experienced or patient enough to make it work. I think I'll revisit this design. Both your amps and Red Plate Amps produce the the tweed like blues sounds, that I prefer and mainly get from DIY 5E3, 5F1 and 5F4.

Bluesfendermanblues-- Are you using the FET circuit in your builds? I know a lot of people leave it out, but single coil Pickups really benefit from it.

In my first build, a ceriatone kit (today Bluesmaster), I have the FET installed, but only used it once or twice.

In my latest builds, #102 and #183, I've left it out. I thought Dumble's idea was that the FET was meant for 70's electric acoustic guitars.....due to 3M input.

However, if you regard it as part of the equation for single coil pu's, I'll reconsider giving it a try. Didn't David Lindley use the FET channel for slide?

How high do you set the FET trimmer volume?

I set the FET trimmer pretty low. I do it by ear so I don't know exactly but it is somewhere about 1/3rd of the way up. It's not just for acoustics, you need to play with it some more.

I made a few searches and can see, that I missed a whole lot of discussions about using the FET channel. I have ordered FETS so I can put boards into my amps. Thanks for pointing me in that direction.
