I have most of the components and pt and ot for a single ended 6v6 poweramp and can afford the components for a preamp.
How would I do it? Can I just cut the power section out of a Champ and plug a dumble preamp into it? like this (you'll have to excuse my paint skills):

Sure why not.a_whichello wrote:I have most of the components and pt and ot for a single ended 6v6 poweramp and can afford the components for a preamp.

1) Since you are using 100k plate resistors, you will probably need to 'up' the cathode caps on V1 to 10uf or 22uf.
2) Remember the 22k Feedback resistor, you could connect it to the cathode on V1b (pin
Personally I have experience with four dumble design (Bluesmaster, #124 , #102 and #183) AND I use a 5F1 weekly at band rehersals.
Dumble amps one one side and and small blues amps like the a 5F1 champ are obviously very different animals. Both are great for what they can do, but personally I wouldn't mix them...in spite of the theroretical benefit of having Dumble tone in a small package.
IMO Dumble amps dont need poweramp distortion, so I would use the Champ as a champ. Still user "Matt" build a nice sounding amp with a single EL84 power and Dumble pre.
Diva or not? - Respect for Mr. D's work....)

Yeah I can see what you are saying, but I just cant afford the power amp stuff at the moment for a full dumble build, however I do have spare good quality hardly used old 6V6s and spare transformers enough to build something like this.
I just thought that a champ would be easy. Potentially I could buy another output transformer and up it to a 2x 6V6 amp for some more headroom but going all the way to a 50w 6L6 is just too expensive out here in Australia (transformers are roughly 3 times the cost after postage and initial purchase price.)
