Resistor assortment from the "bay"

Post by B »

I was just wondering if it would be inadvisable to get one of the 1/2 watt MF resistor asst. from evil-bay? Anybody try this approach?

I realize they're coming on a slow boat from china, but it could save me time in the long run having to make multiple orders, or going to my local supply shop for random resistors.

I have some RN65's left over from my other build, and would only have to order the larger wattage resistors from Mouser.

Hi B,

Depending on the build you choose, determines the composition of you resistors. The later builds such as Bluesmaster and High plate HRM use predominantly MF resistors, however the earlier builds use mostly CF resistors and the composition of the components in key spots is probably the most significant ingredient in these builds.

A trip to your local electronics store will more than likely give you many of the same components HAD would have used, which can't be a bad place to start!

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Paul.

Thanks for the reply Paul, I actually have been doing more reading and come to the conclusion that CF resistors may be the way for me, I'm building a D'lite tweaked layout with 50 watt Iron, and low plates for a nice clean channel for my strats, and tweaking the OD to ear later on.

For the CF builds, I read that 1 watt, whilst overkill in some parts, was preferred.

The #124 BOM also had these resistors from mouser as well.

Any input?

Chris.
