Re: Question for our resident luthier
I gotta say, I've had a penchant to build an 8 course renaissance lute for some time.

This guy shreds this piece (and the Faire outfit is cool too). I bet he gets all the wenches:

I'd take you up on the celluloid offer but after seeing that pic of you with the guns I'm scared to let you know where I live.Reeltarded wrote:I use celuloid and duco exclusively. Super glue is a MESS! Use Tite-Bond. Joinery of any kind with a non-solvable material is a mess.
Ceeb, if you need some thin multi-ply or single layer celuloid in an easy color let me know. I have w/b/w and white for sure.
You could always send it to me and let the moron take the heat.

Re: Question for our resident luthier
No way. I only use those to keep snakes AND LUTISTS off my porch.

I like the guitar. I would put Gretsch pickups on it, or Ricky toasters!

Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.

That looks GREAT! Love the wood.
I can not detect any asymmetry in the F-Holes. None. Nada. Nicht.
Re: Question for our resident luthier
I'm planning on P-90's and a chopped down tele bridge.Istill need to route the ledge on the body. The binding for the f-holes idea is an afterthought so I would still have to enlarge them.I've never done binding and I'm certainly no luthier so I just hope i dont f it up to bad.
I wish I would have done just one f-hole but its to late now.

It looks better with the two. Yes, it does.cbass wrote:...............

You going with chrome or gold-tone hardware?
Here is an idea ...... one concentric control pot ..... volume on top, tone on the bottom ring ..... 3-way switch in upper bout like a Les Paul. Would look sharp .... as long as you're not into the pinky-against-vol-pot a'la Jeff Beck (concentric control wouldn't work for that).
Re: Question for our resident luthier
Thnaks,Chrome I reckon I don't even have any hardware yet.I was planning on cream colored P-90's.Walnut neck still haven't decided on the fingerboard.I'm thinking rosewood.
The toasters would definately look cool but I don't think Ive ever heard any in person.

Re: Question for our resident luthier
Hey cbass, really nice looking body you have. I was gonna re-read the thread to find out, but it is hottter than blue blazes and I am feeling lazy... is that a walnut top? I built one with a walnut neck and never really liked how mellow it sounded. That was on a padauk semi hollow bodied Les Paul Jr. kinda thing. Set neck, but yours is bolt on so yippy. Not that you wont like it, it may be better in your application. Just my experience, it may be the way you want it to sound. It was pretty unique. In fact, maybe I do like it, now that I think about it. Ok, nevermind this post with all of it's sentence fragments.
Good job on the boddy buddy!

Yea its walnut fell in the icestorm of '08.I like walnut thought I've never used it for a neck though. This is the first one I've done with alder and so far I think its way to soft I guess i'll see how it sounds.
I'll be sticking with Juniper (eastren red cedar) for my teles from now on I'm convinced there is no better wood for a tele. Its fairly tough easy to work with and sounds great.
I've got some thick slabs of walnut ant flamed maple for an LP and an LP Jr one day

Walnut is one of my favorite woods, even for a neck.cbass wrote:Yea its walnut fell in the icestorm of '08.I like walnut thought I've never used it for a neck though. This is the first one I've done with alder and so far I think its way to soft I guess i'll see how it sounds.

But there has to be something over top for a fretboard.
Naked Walnut just doesn't get it for a playing surface.
My vote goes to a thick Ebony fingerboard !

Re: Question for our resident luthier
I wasn't planning on using walnut fretboard.I figured it wasn't hard enough.I have some beautiful jet black ebony but I don't no I was think in about using it for a future LP build.
