Hi Guys,
I have a Bludotone 100 wattt HRM powered by EL 34's. What will happen to the tone of this amp if my tech installs 6L6's
Thanks for your advice in advance.

Re: 6L6's in HRM?
Its all good, just make sure they're a match quad and bias for 6L6's (usually around 32 mA).
Usually the amps that were intended for EL34's can run 6L6's but most amps intended for 6L6's can't handle the increased currant El34's have.k

Re: 6L6's in HRM?
Guys, a question on this topic.
In my next build I am going to use a PT that originally powered 2x EL34, so no problems there.
I always liked the sound of 6L6 on the cleans myself for that Fender tone.
As I have the luxury of being able to swap between both (and I have a pair of Mullards to try too), what OT would best handle the 4K and 2.5K of the respective tubes.

Re: 6L6's in HRM?
As far as I know the 2x EL34 Marshall OTs have an impedance in the range of 3.2k.
I don't think that 3.2k versus 4k makes a huge difference.
Peace,
Markus

Thanks Markus in that case I think I am going to try a Mercury Mag Prosonic 4,8, 16 ohm OT F-PROSON-OMmarkusw wrote:As far as I know the 2x EL34 Marshall OTs have an impedance in the range of 3.2k.

and matching choke F-PROSON-C.
Re: 6L6's in HRM?
Isn't the Prosonic OT a 50 watt transformer?
That is what I put in my D'lite which is a 2x 6L6 amp.
I bought mine at Angela

Don't let that smoke out!

Thanks Tom, it is a 50 watt.
I really like the Mercurys I have in my AB763 amp, I think the Fatstacks are capable of running both types easily. They don't even get more than tepid no matter what you do.
I'm not really an EL34 fanatic (except in Marshalls) but I may run em for fun.

I had 6L6's installed in my amp and it sounds wonderful. It was a change for the better. Thanks to all for the feedback.
