Estate sale in my neighborhood. $60 for all. I weeded out the 12AX type tubes, 6V6s and 6L6s in the bottom two rows. The rest I will have to figure out, so I am sure I will have more questions later. The book was free! Mostly RCA, Sylvania and Mullards. A few computer tubes. I would like to see that those go into.

BTW, the two 6L6s have metal cases. Are they safe to run? There are a few 6K6 tubes. They look similar in size to a 6V6. Any good. What's the best way to clean a tube without removing the labeling from the glass?

The metal shell is connected to pin 1. Other than this the metal 6L6 is functionally the same as 6L6G.
On Blackface and later Fenders with a grid stopper that uses pin 1 terminal as a tie point this can cause issues.
If an amp is wired with screen resistors tied at pin 1 you will have high voltage on the shell, not good.
Metal shells can run hot(er) and I like to be able to see if a tube is redplating.

Most labels will rub off very easily, unless they are etched.
If you can read the tube type I'd leave them alone.

Good deal!!! My first tube haul had some funny stuff with no labels which I stashed in the back of the drawer. As I would learn to identify tubes I would sift through them and look. Discovered one day I had a couple of Telefunkens in pristine condition that sounded great in my amps...throw nothing away.

There is another bigger box of larger tubes still there. Most of them have the spark plug type conductor on the end of the glass envelope. Everything will be half price tomorrow, so probably about $30 for 30 or so tubes. Worth it? I would think that they are probably radio tubes, so it will be a bit of a project to figure out what they are, test them and eBay them. There were no completed projects around and the sale is being run by a company. The only radio I saw there was a tube bake-a-lite with a broke case.

You did pretty good, I see some Mullards and Tung Sol, RCA, Raytheon.

Usually if the guy was a TV tech, there aren't that many guitar tubes.

I have a Knight tube tester that I bought on a whim from an antique radio place a while back. Honestly I haven't used it but a couple of times. I should at least be able to check for shorts, then I can test them in amps for sound.
