anything worth doing, is worth doing right

From a pure delay standpoint how does the space echo compare to the echoplex/TTE

I've had and dealt with maintenance on an EP-3 for 16 or 17 years now.
It's got a nice warm (but noisy) tone to it...not studio-quality audio. It is one of a kind. None of the tape echo sims ever get get it exact. But I highly recommend against anyone buying one today. Most of the replacement parts are now in the hands of hoarders, and the exceptionable tape is obsolete, so you have to rewind existing cartridges with NOS. Ultimately, it's just become too obsolete.
I still have mine, but it was displaced by a cleaner sounding, more practical and reliable Boss DM-2 years ago and I doubt I'll go back. The only reason I haven't sold mine is because 1.) the cabinet is beat to hell, killing resale value, and 2.) it would just be begging for trouble to ship an EP-3 to a buyer, they are just that finicky. Mine will probably end up donated to a friend or in a dumpster the next time I move. More than likely it'll be the latter because my closest guitar-playing friend has had a EP-3 sitting in a corner unused and collecting dust for almost as long as I've own mine.

Re: Who has an Echoplex?
I used to live and die with my EP-3 into a tweed Bassman or Deluxe. I died a lot. My bassist bought me a footswitch because he despised the trails at the ends of songs........
When it really became too troublesome, part of me died. I hate spring reverb. I have a Keeley modded DL4 now and it never dies, dies, dies, dies, dies, dies..........
