Who has an Echoplex?
I am really gassing for one. I am a total delay junkie, and I think this may be the ultimate high.

What, these old things?

One of the first EP-1s and two '62 EP-2s. i really don't care much for the later ones, don't really care much for the -2s. The -1 has separate controls for straight signal and echo instead of a sweep for both.
They are no more upkeep than say a.. fairly stable woman, or an ancient Martin in bad weather.

I used one for years in te 70s and 80s. It became too hard to keep running so I sold it and went to digital delays. Considering you can get a decent digital for $100, less than a few tapes for the echoplex I think it was the right decision.

Re: Who has an Echoplex?
hah REVERB TWIN. (let's not make Fender angry)
It's like a Fender sort of setup with an AC30-ish output. It gets really hawt when you make it scream.. but it does a Rocket sort of clean. The tone controls work in unexpected ways for strange outcomes, I'll tell you that is for certain.
The reverb is not bright and spanking like a Fender, it's very mellow, and mute. Smooth.
I found it at a gas station next to a pawn shop while bounding across Kentucky. I think it's a '75 model. Next time I get inside it I will take some pictures, and I still owe you guys some pics of the white Twin too as I suddenly remember. Eeek. Too little time, not enough space!
Einstien was a jerk.

Re: Who has an Echoplex?
The original Roland RE-201 Space Echos were pretty cool as well if you are really into the tape thing. I beleieve it does chorusing or flanging as well.

Re: Who has an Echoplex?
Rolands and EP-3 are probably more viable as well. The plexes are kind of tricky, and one trick units. We also have a 301 that I never use at work. I prefer a PCM-41 or 42 for straight delay line. Much cleaner signal, plus modulation if you want. 301 has reverb and chorus too.
Uhh.. I am afraid to say what the best delay lines are. They are rare and sometimes cheap.. and what if I need parts? omg please don't let them break.
You guys ever see a Cooper Time Cube? That is a DIY project worth looking at. You are likely to find 95% of the materials in the garden center at Lowe's, or connected to an evaporator in a chemical lab.
... Lord, take me downtown..

Interesting. For some reason, I was expecting an oil can delay.
BTW, TapeOp is a good read if you have any interest in recording. Plus it's free.

The Cooper Time Cube is an awesome piece of crap. Brilliant even.

I have two Roland Space Echos, an RE-301 and an RE-501. The 301's delay sounds better, the 501 is quieter. The 501 also has a better sounding reverb. The reverb on the 301 isn't really usable. The chorus on both is excellent.
