Fender 5e8 bass fart cure?
Hi everybody!
I'm looking for mods for my Fender 5e8 Lo Power Tweed Twin.
I don't like how the Bass starts to "fart" (a sound, comparable to a Fuzz effect), when the Amp goes into overdrive. Is this common to 5e8 amps?
Is there a cure for this, like changing the coupling caps?
Thanks a lot for your help!

You may be having the problem Merlin discusses here:http://www.freewebs.com/valvewizard/cathodyne.html
If what you have is an original 5E8, don't do anything irreversible. There's a special place in Hell for people who mod iconic amps.

if its something you built yourself - check your lead dress on the first tube stage if the grid stop on the PI does not help.
Re: Fender 5e8 bass fart cure?
It's an Amp Kit from TAD, Tubeampdoctor.
I redid the soldering an checked with other Speakers (the ones I'm using are Cream Vintage Alnicos: http://www.twinsound.de/alnico-speaker.0.html). I tried with Vintage 30 after reading your replies this afternoon and the fart was gone!!
So the Speakers seem to be too weak for the Amp...
Do you have recommandations for better Speakers (The Vintage 30s are a little weak on the Bass side)?
Thanks!

As far as the bass, I think you're hearing the open-back cap more than the speaker itself. In a closed back cab with any ol' tweed design, the a V30 can be pretty woofy. Maybe a G12H30 would be bassier if you like the British flavor.
Re: Fender 5e8 bass fart cure?
Today, I tried 2 Scumback H55 HP Speakers with the Twin. I's a fascinating combination! The missing Bass, is back, almost too much. There's a woody growl in the tone, perfect with the Stratocaster. With Les Paul and ES335 it's a little tricky dialing in the perfect sound, because there's alway plenty of Bass lying under every note.
If possible, I will try the Scumback H75 or Celestion G12H with 75Hz Resonance. Right now i think G12H Type Loudspeakers are perfect for what I'm hearing, but 75 or 55 Resonance I will still have to find out.

go with .022 caps post inverter, and make sure theres a .001 into the inverter,.

Anything you do to reduce bass early in the signal chain (smaller bypass and/or coupling caps in the pre-amp) will reduce the low-end flab. Decent grid stoppers will help with fartiness.
