I'm looking for a link to the TL806 EV box. The link to telex is bad.

A little different, in English. I've made two of these and they work fine. Guitar players don't usually bother with the front port cover. sh

Many thanks guys. I just picked up 2 12L's and put them both in a 2x12 cabinet. It now weighs 67 lbs. and I can't do it anymore like I used to. I think a couple of these with one driver each gives me options.

I've seen this EV cab come up in a number of discussions. Excuse my ignorance, but what do people like about them compared to standard open or closed cabs? Are they attractive for low tunings or do they sound great for standard tuning too? They look small so is it the size and weight (portability)? Or just a different sound to the conventional.

I haven't played through one yet but I hear people talk about the good bass response on these cabs, something sometimes lacking on a traditional 1 x 12.

These may be larger than you think due to the port at the bottom.
Definitely larger than a regular 1 x 12.

I've loved the 15" guitar speakers I've played through (like the Peavey Delta Blues) and I've been curious about the TL606 (15" Thiele).

Has anyone every played through one of those?

These are mine. One is an EVM12L and the other uses a Swamp Thang. Very versatile, not subtle, even response and extraordinarily heavy for the compact size. Mine are oak so I added a couple pounds unnecessarily but if they were made of pine they would still be a load. sh

tl806 cab is specifically designed for the EVM 12.
Other speakers work well in them-I have used JBL D120s and K120s in them also-but they are optimized for the EV.
JBL designed cabs are slighter larger total volume.
I have built two from the plans, quick and dirty, took about 4-5 hrs total including paint. They weigh about 38 pounds apiece with the EVs.
The fullness of the sound, strong bass that balances out the EV mids and highs, and the output level are pretty surprising from such a small cab.
100 watt HRM with Dlator into 2 X tl806 w/EVs can cover just about anything.
It can get really loud! I use 1 or 2 depending on venue size.
I think they are a terrific design.

I did a bit more reading along with the comments from you guys. So it's a big sounding cab in a physically small package. Sounds good to me! Might have to give one of these a go. 1x12s have to be a decent size to sound good and this has smaller dimensions than the 'good' cabs I'm familiar with.

I made two of them so it didn't matter but if you are only going to make/use one, remember they are so small that most head cabs will stick out on either side. If you look at mine, that head on one cab would have the rubber feet dangling. The vibration makes them slide around plus it looks like Robbie the Robot.

Give a little thought to how your rig ought to look so you don't end up putting the head on the floor. sh

Can't find the link now, but I saw a pic of a cab that had been extended with two spaces on each side to fit a head. In the middle was a basic tl806.

They are pretty small. I even built one out of epoxy impregnated MDF. Sounds great, but definitely not something you want to carry anywhere. I think the EVM12L is already around twenty two pounds.

I've often thought about building one out of a really light material and then covering it with a carbon fiber/kevlar hybrid. Unfortunately at around $40 a yard, it gets expensive to experiment.
