I've been revisiting my #102 clone recently and have been messing about with the 'composition unknown' mid cap and was wondering what conclusions/preferences forumites have had, deciding which cap to go with.
I like the 6PS on the cleans because it gives more of the 'marshmallow' tone (to my ear) but in OD it sounds too thick and inarticulate.
Xicon MPP has the opposite qualities.
Anyone care to share their thoughts?
Cheers,
Paul.

I can't say what type it is; maybe a old phlips; but not sure if it's a Polyprop, polyester or something else. But based om some descriptions, I would say a more "effective" cap in that position.

more than likely a xicon metalized PP, used a bunch of those in a Bogner blue/red channel kinda thing, wonderfully squishy and warm, one of best amps i ever built. Bought them in @ 2000 period, dunno if still available..erwin_ve wrote:I can't say what type it is; maybe a old phlips; but not sure if it's a Polyprop, polyester or something else. The mid cap in 102 was labeled GE light brown and more than Likely a polypropylene or polyester

I got it straight from someone who has been inside of 102 ... This is why I colored the cap brown in my layout..At the time I did the layout 102 had this Brown cap labeled GE..
Erwin is that a pic of the cap inside 102?...The board does not appear to be formica?
