I have no experience of using 5vdc for heater filaments, although I have seen the reviews about these on other forums.
I'm experimenting with a point to point / pre amp board mix that brings the heater wiring close to some pre-amp caps & resistors.
I'd like to run the pre on 5vdc & the power on 6.3vac - 2 separate windings.
Any watch outs / advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob

Re: DC Pre-Amp Heaters
you need 6.3vdc not 5vdc for the preamp heaters.
easiest way is to use a 1-1.5A 6.3vac-0 or a 8vac or higher winding and rectify and regulate it.

Re: DC Pre-Amp Heaters
Having never used dc for heaters - I read about using 5vdc instead of the 6.3vac norm... I can get 5vdc with my supplies - around 6.7vac x 1.41 bridge rectified - then regulated to 5vdc.
Maybe I'll try ac first to see if it introduces unacceptable hum.
Might be stressing about nothing. All advice is welcome though.
This layout is I'm trying is quite a bit off the reservation.
