Hardwire TR-7 Temolo/ Rotary

Post by Structo »

I bought this pedal a few weeks ago and thought I would give it a review.
I have been impressed with the Hardwire line that Digitech has.
High quality enclosures and good quality effects.

The TR-7 is a tremolo/ rotary pedal.
It has six tremolo settings, Tremolo, Opto Tremolo, Bias Tremolo, Duo Tremolo, UltraVibe, and Vibropan settings.
All with Speed and Depth control and a third Modify knob.

It also has Tap Tempo to set the modulation speed.

The Tremolo models are all very good sounding but what I bought this for is the Rotary Speaker sim or Leslie type effect.
You can really dial in some great B3 sounds which cop organ tones particularly when you play chords.

When used in stereo mode it is really cool, kind of a phasing action between amps.

Of course it does the "Cold Shot" tone as well.
How funny, as I'm typing this "Cold Shot" just came on Pandora.

Most pedals I buy, there is usually a bit of remorse about spending the amount of money these cost, but with this pedal I am completely satisfied.

I pretty much just leave it on the Rotary setting.
I've played through a couple other rotary sim pedals that even cost more and they didn't sound as good as this.

I plug this pedal into the front end of my ODS amp, it didn't sound quite as good in the loop.
I don't notice any tone suck with this in the chain at all.

It retails for about $140.

Sounds like a decent pedal for the price. I have several pedals of that type including a Roger Mayer Voodoo Vibe and a TC stereo chorus flanger. I use a CLS-222 for Leslie sim. Organ sounds are very cool, especially in a full band setting. What I discovered is that I like the vibrato setting on the VV and SCF those pedals alot. You might want to investigate that. Landau and Eric Johnson both use the vibrato settings quite a bit. You can get nice modulation that has quite a bit of depth. Check it out and see if you like with the TR-7.
