Older Radioshack Speaker

I have an older (I'm guessing 70's) bright red/orange 12 inch 8 ohm speaker made in the USA by Realistic/Tandy Corp. for Radio Shack. There is no indicated wattage rating. It works, but there are a couple of tears on the cone. I'm just wondering if this is worth fixing. Anyone ever use one or know anything about them?

Any markings on the outer edge of the basket, such as MS12G ?
These were made for RS by Utah, one of the speaker vendors that were prominently featured in the Allied Radio catalog when they were bought by Tandy and merged with Radio Shack.

It's the same speaker as used in some Fender Pro Reverbs and Deluxe Reverbs, with a different dust cap.
If you don't want to fix or recone it send it to me.

Living on a farm in North Dakota if the city dump didn't produce speakers I would wait for the folks to drive me to Valley City to the RS store so I could get speakers and tubes. Then to the guitar shop for strings and finally to the record stores to get some 45's to listen to.

328310 = Utah, Mar 1973

If you recone it, I recommend using a correct non-lapped cone and the Fender type small paper dust cap instead of the aluminum dome.

The 50 watt rating is optimistic, probably more like a 30-40 watt speaker.

Correct, and Utah's EIA code was 328.

I've got several of your speaker's brethren, a nearly identical Utah MS-12G and a couple of the Fender orange label "by Utah" 12s.
They're not bad sounding speakers if you don't try to push them too hard.
Definitely worth reconing as long as you insist on the correct non-lapped cone.
