There are pro's and con's to PCB vs Turret construction, this is largely the best of both worlds.
1. Some components are just better suited to PCB like the relays and smaller components.
2. There are many mods one can make to a SLO type amp and turrets are better suited to repeated desoldering/resoldering.
3. Turrets in a plated through hole are much more rugged than turrets swaged in bare FR-4 board. I have done them both ways. In these boards I pressed the turrets in mechanically, then soldered the bottom to the plated through holes, rock solid and they disipate heat much better during repeated soldering.
4. I found with PCB its easier to tie multiple components together. I would have had to use larger turrets in some cases and this would also make swapping components during mods more difficult.
5. I found PCB is better for component density and placement which is an issue for me because the longer the board the longer the chassis and cabinet. I'm trying to keep the cab length under 24 inches, so far so good.
6. Finally time is a factor, I have limited time for amp building and laying out and drilling a turret board like this by hand man what a pain. And no way I'd end up with a board as precision as this.
