Has a loop, but not a classic Dumblator, rather, a SS loop of my own design - not unlike an IronSounds but with filtering to emulate Dumblator coloring. Using on board reverb based on a SPIN Semi DSP.

Guitar is a Godin. Cab is a 2X12 oval open back with Emi DeltaPro12As.

Sounds Great! Would you enlighten us on the use of the spin reverb? I am contemplating incorporating a similar OCT FV-1 based reverb - yet to purchase- and am having a little trouble getting started in the right direction such as what is required for a carrier board and how to mix the reverb into the loop (signal levels ets).

Any hints, tips etc would be greatly appreciated.

It's not a trivial undertaking but I can give you a quick and dirty tutorial...

Two aspects of using the SPIN FV-1 chip:
Electrical interface of the chip to your amp.
Programming the effect algorithm(s) to run on the DSP.

I positioned the SPIN in the effects loop of my amp. Although it's inside the amp, you might think of it like any other effect. If you have an active loop already, you're at least half way there. You'll want to split the signal for a wet and dry path to maintain a pure analog dry path. On the wet side, the SPIN signal interface is requires that you attenuate/limit to a level of 3.3V P-P maximum and AC couple it into the SPIN chip. The signal return then needs gain recovery applied. I've found 20dB attenuation and recovery seems to work well with my builds. You need about 100mA of well regulated 3.3VDC power for the FV-1. You can derive this off the heater supply (with great care!) or use the relay supply. The FV-1 is only available in a surface mount package so you'll likely need to do a custom PCB (and all the grief that goes with doing your own surface mount production). An alternative (I think this is the way Gary has gone) is to use a SPIN board that OCT Distribution is making: http://www.oct-distribution.com/

SPIN Semi provides free PC tools for programming the SPIN and there are a good number of sample programs to get you well on your way to doing your own effects. But none are suitable for use without some alteration and tweaking. So get ready to bite the bullet and start learning how to program in the FV-1 assembler language and how DSP algorithms in general are designed (an Engineering degree is an asset!). You'll also want to buy the FV-1 Development board as this gives you a convenient platform to load and test your DSP effects algorithms from a PC and program EEPROM for storing your code in proms for running on your target board.
