1. Adjustable 2nd Gen OD network
2. Low PI plates
3. 4th Gen classic tone stack
4. Piher CF on cathodes like seen in the Overdrive Deluxe

Adj FET I see also ...820 ohm NFB, 390ohm/1uf Tant?

Looks great! Shoul sound just as good too!

These quad 6v6 builds just sound killer, the increased gain from the pwr amp when these amps are loud seem to have a positive effect on the sound of the amp, especially the cleans.

Darin, orginally I had it mocked up with a 820 ohm, 100 ohm shunt , 2.2uf and a 500 ohm pot. However, #004 supposely has a 8.2K, 1K with an accent switch AFAIK. I've since changed the pot to 2K and will decide on either 8.2k/1k/1uF, 3.3K/390/1uF or possibly 1.8K/220/.68uF if I want to dump lots of NFB.

That is a sweet build TM....very nicely done. Did you make your own pre and power boards?

Very nice build, TM. What make are the blue bypass caps?
I always keep an eye out for NOS parts, but it tends to be a difficult search.

Thanks CHIP, they are Phillips all the way around. I'm always searching for parts and it is very time consuming. Now the way I do heavy NOS builds is to plan them at least 6-12 months out. It's kind of similar to procuring parts for a classic car, only there isn't a Year One repro parts equivalent for resistors and capacitors so you have to be very, very patient. Some of these resistors I grabbed back in 08' or 09' IIRC.

I installed tubes and fired it up.

Dropping string as built: 680>15K>1.5K

AC: 123.6
heater: 6.7

V1 JJ 83S: 200/200
V2 JJ 83S: 203/206
V3 TS 12AT7W: 304/297
V4-V7 TS 6V6GT: 422/417 screens
bias: -24

2N3823 FET: Vcc= 15.9, Vd= 2.96, Vs= 2.66, looks like I need to increase the source resistor up and away from 2K.

Nice!
I'll be interested in your thoughts about the difference in coupling caps and how they compare to the 6PS orange drops.

Are the brown ones mylar/ polyester?

Thanks Tom; those two EM brown PI caps with the sliver marking are the exact same paper/poly composition as the early Sprague 6PS. I have no idea about the CDE brown turds and actually never bothered to research the makeup. However, I'm hoping that they don't sound like doo doo. :)

Great Job on the build..The Brown CDE's are fairly similar to the early 6PS caps from what I get from them..They are smooth slightly darker (hand in hand) but a bit less on the open mid range sound stage as the PS's..
That amp should sound sweet!!..
IMO on some of these early designs less is more on GNFB.. Looking forward to some clips..

Merry Christmas!!

Thanks Tony, it was a toss up between 8.2K/1K or 4.7K/390. I ended going with 4.7k/390/1uf in the GNFB/Pres chain.

Merry Christmas as well, we might have to get together soon.

Totally agree on that! The ONE that i`ve done has been practically immortalized when compared to the others!
