CE manufacturing multisection caps...
Has anyone used this caps in a wreck style build?
https://secure.cedist.com/
They say that this caps are built in old mallory machinery and built to those specs. This could be an alternative to the expensive mallory electrolytics and they have a 20x20x20@525vdc and a 40x40x40@525 which makes them perfect for a wreck style build..
I would like to see if someone has used this and opinions.

Re: CE manufacturing multisection caps...
I don't know of anybody using those CE caps yet. Do we know the cost of them yet?
I do however know of quite a few people who have built TW style amps with can caps. I think Dana has a great example using JJ can caps and many others can be seen if you search around the forum a bit. Hopefully others who have built with can caps in their TW's will pop in and post links to their build threads.

Antique electronics supply has them for...
20x20x20 32.95
40x40x40 34.95
seems like a good alternative to the mallory TC87/TC85 which are expensive.

I use the JJ can caps because they are cheaper and work great.
JJ has now started selling axial caps as well.

Re: CE manufacturing multisection caps...
I bought one a long time ago for a PA conversion. The original was a 3 or 4 section can and B+ was fairly high for 6F6/6V6. They were overpriced back then. I never had any problems with it. Some people re-capping Ampeg V series amps try to use F&Ts and re-arrange the wiring to accomplish the job for a lot less money.

Multisection caps shouldn't be used for new builds. Their noise performance is sub-par because of the common ground return.Has anyone used this caps in a wreck style build?
Just use some quality radial caps, they'll work better, longer and cost you less; the amp will sound better.
Re: CE manufacturing multisection caps...
The Dumble ODS that I worked on recently used a dual cap and sounded absolutely wonderful! It's just a matter of implementation.
But I agree, it is impossible to separate out the grounds if need be.

Re: CE manufacturing multisection caps...
Thanks for the answers!! My idea to ask about this caps is because of the connection with Mallory and because it can be frustrating buying parts for an amp and spending 100+ in 6 caps (mallory TC series).
In my express build I used F&T's and in my rocket build I used Mallory TC series.
I think both amps sound great but the fact that the rocket sounds out of this world and the express sounds very good makes me curious if I should replace the F&T's with mallory TC's.
I just though it could be a good experiment to use this caps and see how they sound.
FYL if you check the layout in all TW amps the 3 20mf and the 3 40mf caps connect all their grounds so that makes it the same as using 2 multicaps.

Re: CE manufacturing multisection caps...
I just used a 40-20-20-20 in a D-style build with great results. I agree the common ground is kinda limiting. When I build again I would break up the filtering into separate caps. That said the amp is dead quiet noise wise.
Caps were for B+, screens, PI, reverb.

Re: CE manufacturing multisection caps...
I actually was talking about a 1983 Dumble ODS.
Re: CE manufacturing multisection caps...
Ya I'm just saying they work well in high gain designs like Dumbles. Built by the weird old man or by others.

Used one here with satisfactory results: https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
The chassis was punched for a multicap, so watcha gonna do? Make the best of it, make it rock, move on.
