The "Duh" question of the week...
good stuff or mostly red flags???
I have my own 50w HRM that Nik built that I tubed up with some serious vintage old stock from my extensive collection and am enjoying it... hugely. My friend is now looking for someting D-clone-y and he sent me this one. So I told him I'd ask from the ones who know...I have a couple of red flag thangs about this, but since I know much less than senior members here, thought it would be wise to defer my words and hope to hear some from the more experienced, wiser ones...plus or minus, no holds barred.

Thank you all, not only for your answers here, but for what I have learned from reading posts from very early pages as well as recently here in this section of the forum.
Peace.

Re: am curious...HRM build on ebay
I am definitley not a senior member but the lead dress looks worse than mine. I would look elsewhere at that price especialy with no shell.
Re: am curious...HRM build on ebay
+ 1 on the lead dress and the price. I think you could get into one of the 50 watt Sebago Sound amps for close to that money. If you want to spend more you can always DIY!backpack wrote:I am definitley not a senior member but the lead dress looks worse than mine. I would look elsewhere at that price especialy with no shell.
And.......... IMO, many members here have a neater lead dress than HAD himself.

Also not a senior member, but 1.4K for that is ridiculous. Even with a cab and tubes and proper wiring it would be too much. Tell your friend to keep looking - he/she should be able to find something comparable in a complete, working and ready to go state for several hundred less.
Re: am curious...HRM build on ebay
Thanks, I did send him an email telling him to pass. The lead dress thang and price were also objections of mine, but I wanted to hear if the same things were a concern to others. Thanks for your help to those that replied, now it's time to let this thread die.
Peace.

Another note.... It looks like there are several deviations from the "Dumble" specs. Snubbers, feedback, etc.
Maybe for 800.

It never ceases to amaze me that a player who popularized the "wall of amps" continually gets characterized by the SSS. Never mind the raw talent, vintage strat, 12" radius, 13's and the crazy glue..........it's the amp.talbany wrote:Not really an SSS..no step filters..T Wilcox wrote:You guys see what else this person is selling?

So true and so sad, I saw him live as early as 80' and once more pre SSS and twice SSS and you know what, he sounded for all practical purposes the same. Honestly, I think his live sound was just as good or better pre SSS. IMHO, his association with the SSS is very, very overrated.dreric wrote:

I've often wondered why folks trip so much over the SRV/SSS combination when it was really in his heart and hands. I guess if he would have lived longer, folks would be cloning his Soldano.

Re: am curious...HRM build on ebay
I too saw him 3 times each time with a different back line...each time he sounded more or less (Depending on his chemical intake that day) the same.......The last time I saw him he was clean and sober.......really good that night.....but he had at least 6 amps on the stage..... I don't know how you tell what was a Dumble...Marshall...fender.....at that volume.....great tone...but it wasn't just the amps.
Thanks
Chris
Thanks

He played pretty much clean. It was all in the fingers and the soul as far as I'm concerned..

Yeah, the way I understood it, SRV experience with the SSS was rather brief.
Then he had trouble with it so it went back for repairs.
Then it took so long to get it back he said the hell with it.
I really don't see the fascination with the SSS amps.
Just a powerful, clean amp, right?
I was surprised when I saw an early video of him and he was using the Marshall's for his clean tone and the Vibroverb's for his distorted lead tones.
Remember the controversy over the Hamiltone guitar that SRV played?
There are two different guys saying they are the real Hamiltone.
Will the real Hamiltone please stand up?

Re: am curious...HRM build on ebay
I saw SRV not long prior to his death and don't recall a Dumble in the back line. The music/tone was fantastic!
