HELP TwoRock HRM Slope - Check pic & report value

Re: HELP TwoRock HRM Slope - Check pic & report value
Ok, I'm gonna expose my lack of knowledge and ask this question. Based on the layout of my amp, which two components are you referring to regarding the "slope resistor" and "midcap"?
I see these complaints all the time about SC's and these amps and can't understand it. I get killer SC tones. Very similar to the clip of the Opal.
Thanks for any assistance!

Why worry about it, if you get killer tones??SoundPerf wrote:Ok, I'm gonna expose my lack of knowledge and ask this question. Based on the layout of my amp, which two components are you referring to regarding the "slope resistor" and "midcap"?

You can see the components inquestion on attached schemo.
Don't mess with your amp, that contain lethal voltages, if you don't have experience in doing so.
Go to a qualified tech, if you want mods in your amp.

Well, I suppose since I built the amp from scratch including soldering all components to all loacation, I have a little bit of experience with the "leathal voltages". Nothing was done by Ceriatone, except packing all the individual components. Just because a person doesn't have amp design experience, doesn't mean they don't have any electrical background or dealt with "lethal voltages" before.bluesfendermanblues wrote:Why worry about it, if you get killer tones??SoundPerf wrote:Ok, I'm gonna expose my lack of knowledge and ask this question. Which now brings me to this. And will probably make me a pariah around here. Why do you have to be part of the "elite clique" to get any consideration around here? What is the purpose of this site? Maybe I made a mistake coming here. I thought is was suppose to be a place to get help, share ideas, learn more than you may know presently about amps and specifically D-style amps. Do I need to preface all questions with my resume and electrical portfolio? I made the comment about lack of knowledge not to state that I have no electrical background, but more to show some modesty and stave off any "flaming" I figured I might get for not knowing all the "tube amp lingo" and the specifics about amp building and modding. But I was hoping to learn.
I really had no intention of modding anything soley based on your ideas alone. I have just been slowly gathering has much information I can to give me a better understanding why my amp and amps in general sound the way they do.
If this is a site for just the "Grand Wizards" of amp building and all else need not apply then maybe a "sticky" explaining this would be in order.
Oh, and thanks anyway for taking the time to share some information the way I needed it decribed.

You asked a question and I gave you an answer. Just trying to be helpful.
I didn't know you'd sourced the parts yourself and build an amp yourself. How could I?
I can't speak for other people, but in my personal opinion, this forum is not for the elite, even if some of the builders around are in the top elite IMO. People at this forum are just Dumble amp lovers. So lower your sholders and take it easy.

Let's not get heated here
I can speak for Soundperf's work. ( Seen it )
I can tell you he knows how to work safely in amp ( He helped me diffuse mine for my first time)
I think he was a little offended as I would be too.
If someone has gotten as far as building theyre own amp from scratch and still doesnt know there are lethal voltages.
Well Darwin award will be in order
Now lets hug and make up.

The part where you said you didn't know which was the slope resistor or the mid cap would lead any experienced tech to think you don't know much about amplifiers.
A TMB tone stack is one of the fundamental building block in most guitar amps.
We can't assume everybody that comes here knows what they are doing and since we are dealing with lethal voltages in tube amps, I hope you can understand that we don't automatically know your credentials as far as experience goes.
You made it sound like you didn't know much about amps, he was just responding to that.
Another thing that will raise hackles here is, instead of asking simple questions, do some homework first.
Search the forum threads or Google something before asking.
Many times you will find the answer and learn from the experience of looking for it.

We sometimes grow weary when people ask questions that are relatively easy to find the answers for with a little work.
So we ask that you first try to work it out your self then, if you are still stumped many of us would be glad to help.
But coming in here with a bad attitude will not garner favorable results.
There is also a sticky that has a bunch of reading material to learn tube theory.
Now calm down and get back to soldering.

Oh, bugger off, Tom! Where do you get off telling me what to do? If I want to use wire wrap instead of solder, I damn well will! And as for "lethal voltages," everyone knows it's the current that kills you. Get your facts straight.

PS - the voltage in a tube amp can shove a lot of current straight through your heart. Assuming you have one.

Re: HELP TwoRock HRM Slope - Check pic & report value
Well I'm not going to draw this out and beat it to death and "hijack this thread". I have done research. So answer this. Is there more then one place on an amp design where the term slope resistor would be used? See if I was actually describing mods or possible mods on a public forum I would be much more specific in my desciptions. I'm speaking generally here and not necessarily directing this at Blues or at this specific situation. But there's many times that I have wanted to ask questions that I admit of are a more primary level and haven't becuase of the general tone that is often the case here. And while you want to convince me that I'm being overly sensitive and huffy, I know I'm not alone in my feelings.
As we all know writing on internet forums can get messy when implicatons are applied that are not correct. Maybe I'm guilty. It wasn't so much the "lethal voltage" thing. It was more the, and I'm paraphrasing here, "if your amp already gets killer tone than don't worry about it". I took this as "don't waste my time with your silly simple questions when I'm working on a real serious tone quest".
In my intital question, I was speaking more to the single coil aspect that I see so many complain about. I haven't had any issues with this and I too was curious about what makes this the case. Or maybe it's really not an issue and just lack of knowing how to get good tone from an amp.
So, I'm going to assume that I have to go read every tube amp book and become so capable that I really wouldn't need to ask any questions here before I can ask any questions here.

Once you do that, you wont have to ask questions here!
You could just sit on you high chair and make anyone asking questions feel stupid because they didnt know everything there is to know about tube amps.

It was...or an attempt. Plus a PSA about voltage. Hey, it's Monday and I'm on hydrocodone!Structo wrote:You have a really strange sense of humor George, if that is what that was...
Mostly an attempt to lighten things up a bit. The members of this forum, many of whom make a living building amps, are unbelievably patient and helpful to new builders.
