Switch Rating

For my upcoming 100W, non-HRM, EL34 build, I’m going to use the garden variety Carling 110-series SPSTs for power and standby. Switch rating: 6A @ 125V.

Now, I’ve seen two other amps (one a real ODS and the other a clone) use these switches for power and standby in 100W EL34 amps which makes me think it's alright. Is it?

I use the 110's in most of my 50w amps, although I prefer these a bit better in a 100w build (room permitting)
I am sure the 110 series would be fine although I have replaced several on some older Twins... Call it peace of mind I guess (and they feel nice and +).. I have yet to replace 1 of these in 10 years of building..BTW

Tony do you switch both line and neutral with that switch? (DPST?)

Nice thing with the DPDT for the standby is you can parallel the lugs so if one side fails you still got the other.

Yeah, the 10A and higher variety of switches that Cutler-Hammer, Carling etc. make all have their lugs located in spots on the switch that come awfully close to the octal sockets. I've tried many of them but they just won't cut it. I'm using the CE chassis by the way.

The amps I were referring to in my last post was #204 and an amp Gil made.

Yeah!..Our amps are a bit different front mount AC and STBY down by the PT (+ your staring at em)..and do take up room in both directions..I am sure the 110's will be fine..

Yeah!..Our amps are a bit different front mount AC and STBY down by the PT (+ your staring at em)..and do take up room in both directions..I am sure the 110's will be fine..

None of the manufacturers will rate for DC at 500V at 250 or 500mA it seems, so we continue to wing it......

I use the Fender Bassman type switches for 50 w or so, but when it gets up to 100W I think Tony is right with the big Carlings. They are a pita in Dumble builds, and others too, because of their size, but I feel better using them there.

Just curious, but what did HAD use in the 150W 500V SSS? I would guess the big 10A 125VAC Carling.

Here's a shot of the Dumble, looks like 110 series with Tab terminals. For those in the know, what kind of power & standby switches was 183 runnin'?

Some sort of SPST tab terminal variety. The switches are only visible in one of the few shots I have of it, but they weren't the focal point of the image.

Thanks Jason, that's very cool. I've seen a bunch of other later ODS amps with those switches too. Never been able to figure out who makes/made them.
