safe 1N4007 substitute?
Hello, Is it safe to substitute 1N5821s for 1N4007s in the rectifier and bias circuits? Thanks

They are rated for a maximum reverse voltage of 30 volts so no they will not work in place of a 1N4007

Thanks for the info.

A Semikron SK 1/10 axial lead diode could be a valid alternative, perhaps?

BY133, HER108, 1N5408 among a lot of other types... all 1000V reverse volatge, appx 1A forward load
1N4007 should be one of the easier ones to find though....

Caution with the larger diodes like the 5408.
The leads are larger diameter and can be problematic fitting into some eyelets.
I used some on an amp which I also used ceramic .01 snubbers on each diode.
I had to drill the eyelet out a little larger to make everything fit.

For the bias supply you don't need 1000V PIV diodes, but it is easier to just buy one type diode and avoid confusion over which one is which. If you are using 1N400X diodes, the 1N4007 is about the same cost as a 1N4002 so it does not make sense to buy both.
The UF4007 is slightly more costly, but produces less switching noise that can come thorugh the amp as humm or buzz.
