Attenuators for the Express.

Post by 57goldtop »

Hi guys.

I am looking around for an airbrake and noticed several Dr Z Brake - Lite units on ebay, was just wondering if this would be suitable enough for the Express design being that it is around 35 watts and this particular airbrake model handling 45 watts.

I know that a fully dimed tube amp will put out more than its rated power so I'm not so sure about the Lite.

Building my own brake is almost off the cards as the cost of all the parts and importing to Australia would amount to around $160+ and its probably just as economical to buy a second hand one.

Thanks!

My thought is that you should be fine. If you have the Wreck dimed then put all the wattage back into the attenuator... well you won't have any sound but you are still within the specs of the Airbrake. I assume you just want to knock the volume back a bit?

Yes that's correct.

I want to use the Express for rehearsals but its just too loud when I need some gain. Using it at home would be nice too.

Might still be a better idea to build one as I've noticed only one of the units is shipping outside the U.S.

I built one out of salvage parts and it was pretty cheap overall. I can look through the parts bin here and see if I've got more of the big resistors. I'll see what I have and post a note or send a PM.
