Any ideas about the "Small Special"?
After much thought I've came to the conclusion that I need a "B" rig for small gigs or Grab and go stuff. After getting inspired by the Rob Livesey "Small Special" pics I got influenced and started drawing up ideas. I'll probably get a theile cab w/ one EvM12 for it. I think I'll go with 100w ( desperate for beefy clean Headroom ). Great amp for pedals, if need be I can use it on a switching system with my ODS HRM for "Clean"
Has anybody built one of these or something in the Vein?
I plan to just buy a Zendrive ( No need for OD in the Amp )
Here's what I plan to do:
100w 6l6's ( Maybe El34, I dunno yet)
Skyliner
Tube Buffered Loop
Vox style Cut control ( Presence trimmer inside)
Maybe a Footwitchable FET
Small HeadCab ( or maybe in a combo, not sure )
Twin Iron

Re: Any ideas about the "Small Special"?
Back in May, mauiboy81 built and posted the results of his nice low plate skyliner - 50 Watt clean only amp.

You could easily pick up where he left off. Just graft in the d-lator, and add another pair of output tubes.

The head cab isn't but, the chassis was believed to be.. That was a 100w model but, I have also seen the 50w model with the same cosmetics.
One thing I am curious about is why is there no master volume control?

Re: Any ideas about the "Small Special"?
Looks like the third control on the right is labeled Level. So that may be his master volume.

Ahhh, Thanks Tom. I shouldn't have kept skimming through pictures or I would've noticed that before.Structo wrote:Looks like the third control on the right is labeled Level. So that may be his master volume.

From that post Max listed.boldaslove6789 wrote:Ahhh, Thanks Tom. I shouldn't have kept skimming through pictures or I would've noticed that before.Structo wrote:Looks like the third control on the right is labeled Level. So that may be his master volume.
This amp is basically a 100 watt Overdrive Special minus the Overdrive. This circuit was also used as a bass amp. It has very full headroom and wonderful sparkly-clean tones. The level control is a second volume inserted later in the circuit (but before the phase inverter), so it allows for subtle adjustments to the gain characteristics of the preamp section. It's not about crunchy overdrive.

Thanks
Actual size of the amp is 13 1/2 X9X8 about 19 lbs
I've put mine under my seat in an airplane
The green thing on the top is a bank of Blue Led's
I've only made 3 of these.. PITA
