I think this is a very very interesting topic.
I have tried finding a nice balance between clean and OD with the D'lator as well. I have a 67pf bright cap on the master (push pull) but I don't use it because it adds an unpleasant edge in the OD. Strangely enough using a 47pf cap didn't make a noticable difference on or off. Never quite understood this.
For me turning the Presence up to 8 works best. The Clean channel is a bit brighter and more open and the OD channel doesn't have that unwanted nasty bright edge to it. It's a pitty the Presence control isn't very linear. It's almost like a switch which kicks in at 8.
I have ordered some new patch cables. Netrik plugs and Van Damme cable. Who knows. maybe that's it
3 questions.
Does the guitar signal have an influence? I noticed the "in between positions" 2 and 4) of my Strat suffer more form the loss of highs (softer output) that other pickups
why doesn't 47pf cap have an effect on my sound?? should I retry it?
is it hard to improve the way the Presencd pot works?
this is my layout (except for the Cap on the master

Re: Dumbleator - Bright cap on or off?
As I have mentioned I use a 47pf cap on my master.
If you had high pf cables before, you will be pleasantly surprised with the new cables you make, I think.

My old cables look like neutrik plugs as well, but I have no idea what kind of cable was used. A music store made them years ago. I ordered the new cables on E-bay. I can't be trusted with a soldering iron
